The video I've seen makes it appear that the helicopter hit the jet from the side. The plane was in final descent and very close to landing. An expert I heard is suggesting the military helicoper had its transponder turned off so I'm guessing that perhaps it wasn't showing up on the AtC radar so there was no warning but not clear why the helicopter wouldn't have seen the plane approaching and been able to take evasive action.

One network is saying four people were pulled out of the Potamac.

Fox says the air traffic recordings include the DCA air traffic controllers asking the Blackhawk do you see the CRJ.

That angle crossed my mind too before I started this thread.....thought about commenting the Democrats would probably try to blame it on Hegseth since it was a military chopper. Decided not to make this political until others started.

Those are very lucky people, whichever aircraft they were in.

The ATC audio is out. My brother said it sounds like the helicopter was granted approval by ATC to maintain visual separation so it was the helicopters responsibility to avoid the plane. But will know more as the investigation unfolds.

And in terms of position at the time of the crash, Fox says the radar data shows the CRJ at around 400 feet and moving 140 mph at the time of a rapid loss of altitude over the river.

Those AE CRJ7's are like little tin cans. I fly them to connecting flights out of Wilmington a lot. A blackhawk isnt much smaller. I think a blackhawk is like 65ft and a CRJ7 is like 105' this wasnt a little chopper grazing a jumbo jet.

This was a massive helicopter slamming a little plane.

60 passengers and 4 crew on the plane, and 3 crew on Blackhawk.

Can only be tweedle Dee or tweedle dum. Dugger or fox make yet another patently false and offensive claim?

Well the civilians shouldn’t have been impacted or have anything to worry about. Flight controllers usually exempted from govt shutdowns.

They are saying right now the Blackhawks routinely carry “VIP’s”, which I assume is cabinet officials or occasionally house/senate leaders. But on board at the time was 3 military and 0 “VIP’s”. I wonder if they should revisit that practice, seems entirely crazy on multiple fronts.

A lot of angst in federal workers this week but the cause could be anything.

Not saying DEI played a role here but it's a good topic for discussion given the LA fires and Trump anti-DEI executive order(s)

Here's what I was remembering in part:

FNC said the unit that flies out of that helicopter base is generally responsible for transport of the Secretary of Defense and the service secretaries (Secretary of the Army, etc.).

Overall, I agree with you. But depending on how long they were in that ice water they may be walking away with some permanent injuries
