Sounds like it’s an American regional jet commuter flight on final approach that collided with a military or police helicopter.

There's video out there if you care to find it. It's not good.

First crash of a major US passenger carrier on US soil since 2009.

Black Hawk down. Sounds like a movie.

At least 14 members of the US Figure Skating team were on the American Airlines flight that collided mid-air with a military helicopter over Washington, DC, Wednesday night, a skating official said.

Six members of the US Figure Skating team on the doomed flight were affiliated with the Skating Club of Boston, the club’s CEO and executive director Doug Zeghibe said, according to WCVB.

Skater Spencer Lane, his mother, Molly, skater Jinna Han, and her mother, Jin, and coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were all aboard the plane.

Apparently an American Airlines regional jet flying from Wichita, KS. Hit a blackhawk.

Have to wonder what in the world the helicopter was doing crossing the landing path to Reagan. There is a pretty constant string of flights going in there with limited runways.

How and why does a military Blackhawk helicopter get into a major airport’s runway airspace?

You’d think only some complete idiot new pilot could make such an error. It’s a busy airspace so i’m sure there are close calls among civilian aircraft, but seems very odd a Blackhawk would be involved.

My brother has a pilot in his guard unit that pilots for PSA and is based at Reagan. He’s checking to make sure he wasn’t on that plane.

The good news is that there are a lot of regional flights for American out of Reagan.

Might not be a DEI angle here but it would not be a surprise.

MSNBC is showing the video. I don't understand why CNN & Fox don't have the video of the crash but they don't.

They have to get permission from whomever shot the video first. Maybe the person gave an exclusive to MSNBC

Yeah it’s completely crazy to be in the landing pattern.

My first thought is hope it wasn’t an intentional act (suicide?). But maybe there was a reason for the Blackhawk to at least be flying in that general area. I’m assuming it’s the Blackhawk pilot in error to even be there at all. Could be jumping the gun on that I suppose.

I was going to make the comment that it almost looked intentional when I first saw the video. Didn't want to bring it up but now that it has been brought up it sure looks fishy to me.

According to my brother (commercial pilot with Alaska Airlines):

“Unfortunately the plane was probably too low for the tcas (collision avoidance system) to work. If you’re too low to the ground it’ll only tell you there’s traffic nearby but won’t give you a command (climb or descend) to avoid it.”

Fox too is showing it now but MSNBC was showing it 10 minutes before Fox & CNN were.

Helicopter started from Langley, VA and was following the path of the Potomac southbound. CRJ-700 on an unremarkable approach to runway 33, having just completed its final (and gentle) turn.

Have to wonder how much the chaotic and unorganized Trump week has affect federal workers performance.
