Although I don't think that he will actually go forward with it Trump's talk about militarily intervening to acquire Greenland and Panama brings to mind Mussolini's invasion of Ethiopia in 1935.

"I don't really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn't allow that to happen because it's for the protection of the free world," Trump told reporters.

 

This is really their vision of what and who the USA is?

Fox News host: "Message to Denmark, give us Greenland, or you're under the threat of tariffs too."

 

So how many trade wars can we engage in all at once? We may find out.

The notion that we're gonna bully our allies into doing what we want using tarrifs is crackpot insane foreign policy. Denmark is in the EU. Good luck MAGA with this brand of bully foreign policy. No way it backfires.

 

Bully is certainly the right word for it. And I’ve got no doubt that is part of Trump’s appeal.

 

Don’t disagree. But that’s a long way from what’s being said about owning it, forcing Denmark into giving it to us, using the military to take it, etc.

We already get all that. . . .for FREE! Denmark/Greenland has never said no to a single US request in this regards. We have bases there now. We've had bases there for the entirety of the cold war. Maybe there is some larger leverage play going on, IDK. But stop defending it as some kind of reasonable foreign policy plan. Are you really that much of a sucker or just bending the knee to the MAGA cause?

All Trump is really doing is jeopardizing what we already have.

If we want an “increase presence” I’m sure they’d allow for that based on our relationship. Going “maybe we’ll invade” is not a 4d chess move.
