Actually, I do believe that a sane republican party will return. Trump will be done in four years (and hopefully, on his way to prison). Undoubtedly, a lesser con-man and demagogue (maybe JD Vance) will try to step up and run for president, but will be less convincing in his lies (obviously, Trump is one of the greatest con-men of all time). Much of America will be tired of Trump and the lying, just like they were in 2020 when Biden was elected. Demographics will also favor the democrats in 2028, as republicans tend to skew towards grumpy old men, many of whom will die off or enter nursing homes. Democrats will also have longer to sift through candidates and select the best one, so a repeat of Kamala "deer in the headlights" Harris is unlikely. There will also be some disappointment in the failed policies of Trump, and some of that will rub off on the next republican fascist candidate. So democrats have a much-better-than-even chance of winning in 2028. The real question will be what kind of candidate will the republicans put forward in 2032. If another demagogue, they will lose again, and having learned their lesson, will look for a more reasonable candidate in 2036 or risk becoming irrelevant.

Long story short, it will take a beating or two before the republicans learn their lesson.
