Ask yourself, where is Muschamp the DC at right now? You telling me that Muschamp was only coming back from spending more time with his family to be the DC at the school he used to be the head coach at?
I think a more apt comparison is when Mike White was our basketball coach. He just couldn’t seem to get out of his own way and had a bad habit of taking his foot off the gas. He did just well enough to stay around, but it felt like he could never get the team over the hump. Contrast that with the basketball team under Golden, and the difference is night and day. Mike White was by all accounts a great guy, but as a coach he was too conservative for his own good and he wouldn’t change. At this point, I have the same feeling about Napier in that he is too conservative and stubborn to make the changes in the offense needed to take the next step. Time will tell if he proves me wrong.
Here's my suggestion and it was inspired by Dooley. "Gator fans should love the mentality that Golden has about big leads." Napier needs to have a similar mindset--score so many points that other teams can't keep up!
That's just not his personality, playbook, or demeanor. We can wish and talk about it but that's not what he does. It's not as if he's demonstrated that as an OC and we're just waiting on "his" players to step up.
I would say Billy is more betting his prestige and legacy by holding on to play caller duties, and that though for me Sunseri doesn't seem like the right Co DC, Muschump would be a cancer and is a dirty Dawg.
TBH, I doubt Muschamp was contacted and seriously doubt he would have come, even if, unless he was offered stupid-high compensation. But man, he can recruit the D side.
Yes but you're making the argument we do not have enough talent, but we do. If we aren't deep and talented enough next season to play georgia and the others, we know the issue at that point. Of course talent matters. Great players make plays in their positions. But training, discipline and process do as well and are crucial. How does historically deficient talent keep up with and even beat some much much more talented teams? A 2.5 roster should never beat a 4 star roster.
We better hope geor doesnt come up with a top ten qb and that DJ is a top qb. They have more talent too to bittom would be a fairly safe bet.
Yes, definitely hope they find their QBs are sub par, which seems possible since Beck was their starter. Even with portal losses they are still probably deep, especially on the lines. They recruit about 5 OL 5 DL every cycle. I just hope it unravels even more next season.
Would love to beat georgia next season and read their boards saying things like "kirby's time has come and gone", "we may never beat florida again as long as kirby is our HC". How sweet that would be.
We really need the qb advantage to beat the top few teams. Im hoping DJ makes huge strides because we are going to need it if we are going to beat the best. Playoffs is a stretch for expectations but still very doable. I hope we stomp miami and then we can go from there.
Not counting Samford, against P4 opponents, we averaged 320 yards/game over five games. That would be ranked 122d in the nation over the course of a season. Granted, that was partially a brutal schedule, but that's not eye-popping.
