I dont think that is it. Most people pay zero attention to politics so name recognition is virtually 80% of the reason people get re-elected and incumbency aids that. 90% of either party couldnt tell you what their representatives are doing, what they voted for, or what they support. Leaves an easy path to work for 50 years in an elected role.
I think this idea is related though too. Part of the rationale for some of the old timers not stepping aside is their fear of losing an election. Like, they believe this cynical stuff about voters too. So you get Feinstein running until death and no one stepping in because its an "automatic" win via incumbency, instead of a jungle primary where something unpredictable might happen.
If they would just read up on how Hitler came to power, they'd see the parallels. They have totally shut us out on that topic, like we just have something personal against Trump
Before Democrats think that the world has come to an end and MAGA Republicans gloat over the election of their Dear Leader and the (barely minimal) Republican majorities in the House and Senate a look at recent history may be instructive. Following George W. Bush's election in 2004 Republicans were proclaiming the dawn of a permanent Republican majority keeping mind that W's popular vote majority in that election was greater than Trump's in 2024 and the Republicans led larger majorities in both Houses of Congress than they do now. Two years later the Democrats regained control of both Houses of Congresses in a wave election. Following the 2008 election which Obama won by a significantly larger margin in both the popular and electoral college votes than did Trump in 2024 (Obama won the popular vote by over seven percentage points compared with Trump's 1.6% margin in 2024) some Democrats were proclaiming the dawn of a new progressive Democratic majority. In 2010 the Republicans ended up winning 63 seats in House and six in the Senate wiping out the Democrat filibuster-proof margin). Although they probably won't regain their Senate majority the Democrats will very likely end the reign of MAGA Republicans in the House and it won't be close.
One thing we do know is Trump has only beaten female opponents. The 2 candidates he ran against were uninspiring and both coronated. My guess is that Dems will take over at least 1 body of Congress in 2026, and America will again be ready to move on from the Trump circus in 2028.
This is likely and would be good for the country. What will be bad for the country is if both parties get scared of losing the fringe and swing further out. There will always be hardcore dems and repubs, but the more the party leans into their fringe elements.. the worse our candidates will be.
the only way a lib compromises is for conservatives to move to the left- so there will never be common ground
Duh. I have maga and liberal buddies. I think we all do so your post applies to everyone who has them.
Better to be a little demoralized for one term than permanently "amoralized". Trumps has removed Pub morals permanently. Nowadays, a rape is no more serious than a speeding ticket. Taking another country by force is not unreasonable. And grifting is expected--it's considered a gratuity for the president. (BTW, I consider myself a "Republican", not a "Pub" or a "MAGAt"--you are welcome to those designations.)
I’m about to where I’d like a president and congress to be of a different party. No one controls the other.
I don’t think that explains too much. Look at the favorability disparity between Congress as a whole and the individual senators and representatives. Everyone thinks their own senator/rep is doing great but hate Congress as a whole.
No different than the president. It’s all tribalism. My side good your side bad. And if you dare say both sides suck well… get ready to get smoke from both sides. Personally… They all are slime. They don’t care about you.. not at all. Dems lied to America for years regarding Bidens mental acuity. He was sharper than ever, best version of Biden, running circles around everyone.. all while we share the Easter bunny running interference for him. Then there is Trump. Who set bar so low it’s permanently in the mid. I guess one side can brag about their pile crap being smaller or smelling less pungent.. but it’s still crap. Time to flush it all and start over.
your posting (and to the extent there are other people out there that actually think like you ) is one of the reasons I don’t post here as much. In a way you are doing me a favor.
Actually it's mostly factual. It's a fair statement of the rule, he simply failed to allow for exceptions--but they are in essence, implicit, as every rule has exceptions. Or ought i say *most* every rule... Semantics.
