Did anyone believe Colombia was going to out tariff Trump? We talking practice? LOL. When Trump goes after China, it will be the real economic test.

Looks like Trump caved to Colombia’s demands. Colombia had always accepted reparation flights under Biden. Colombia was upset that Trump now had them being transported shackles like violent criminals. Looks like that will stop. Problem solved. Colombia won.

    Well, on this one no.

Because you do tariffs in retaliation for tariffs. You don’t enter a multi-billion trade war because 2 plane loads of people suffered an indignity. Although the flip-side of that is Trump threatening billions of trade over what is essentially tough-guy optics for the rubes.

No doubt. Punching down on Colombia is on brand for him. But he is setting up LatAm for a BRICS backyard brawl. Hopefully he is keeping all these ideas from leaching his brain.

    Didn’t read this whole thread.

It was reported on the news that replacing the chickens that had to be destroyed will take a year. Chicks have to mature 1.5 years before they become layers. That seems like a long time. If that’s true eggs are going to be up in price for a while.

    Well poop. Wrong thread.

Just looked it up and info from news is not right. I guess I need to fact check the need too.

If the retail price of eggs follows the same trajectory that they did the last time that it was necessary the euthanize flocks of egg laying hens (2022/23) prices starting coming down around a month after they peaked.

How fast production comes back will depend on how many laying hen flocks had to be destroyed due to bird flu. It does take about 1.5 years to get a hen mature enough to begin laying eggs. But also, the eggs are both sold as eggs to consumers or sent to hatcheries to have the chickens available for the consumer as well.

Ha. No. Many common backyard breeds lay 16 weeks after hatching (sex links, leghorns, barred rocks...). Probably way less in a commercial industry.

It is very interesting that Trumpers are suddenly interested in doing deep dives as to particular causes of inflation.

uhh... kind of the definition of a peak is that prices start falling after the peak, or it wouldnt be a peak - the catch is you never really know where the peak is until it's over. :)

    Back to coffee.

My wife and I started drinking Sumatra coffee (Indonesia) a few years back. That’s all we drink now except for the occasional cup when we have breakfast out. When I saw the tariffs on Columbia I had to look up where it was from. We buy 3 cases of 72 at a time when we go to SAM’s club.

    Bottom of a pint glass
So trying to read through the BS on this, I think the timeline looks like this.

We send planes with shackled immigrants we're sending back to Colombia.

Columbia says that's unacceptable and to send them with dignity.

    Trump declares tarrifs

    Columbia declares tarrifs in retaliation.

USA agrees to send detainees not in shackles on Columbia's presidential plane.

Am I missing how Trump "won" this exchange?

Speaking of "eating it up" I love how WarDamnGator started this thread about "prices about to soar," and then you posted that, and then WarDamnGator liked your post.

    Somebody "ate up" something.
