no I'm saying that the least-expensive product (Arabica beans) to satisfy the contract will be delivered.

Yeah ... that was a head scratcher for me, too. I couldn't figure out what he was trying to say and was just going to ignore it. The other thing he could mean is that the US consumers would pay commodity prices, then pay the tariff on top of that for any Colombian coffee? ... not sure why either result supports Trump's hissy fit.

Your link says America can't let Colombia boss us around? It's actually Trump trying to boss him around, though, right?

Hmmm, interesting. So when some US company buys this least-expensive product, what is to stop Colombia from selling to the former recipient of this now cheapest product? Also, why were we buying so much from Colombia anyways, if we could get the physical product from other locales just as cheaply? Random chance?

Are you suggesting that if you take away 20% of the supply prices remain the same??? :emoji_joy:

Sure, some other suppliers might step up. But put your thinking cap on. In a free market if the alternatives could meet the price/quality they’d already be doing it. Something would have to give, either higher prices on our end from the tariff or a product seen as less desirable from an alternate source (I’m not a coffee aficionado but Colombian coffee I think is considered “premium” compared to Brazilian coffee, there are only certain areas that can grow it properly).

After Trump's tariff threats, Colombia agrees to accept repatriates from US - ABC News(a Libbie source)
Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luis Gilberto Murillo Urrutia acknowledged the statement shortly afterward in a video posted to X, stating that Colombia would accept repatriates who are transported back with dignity. He also confirmed that Petro would be sending his presidential plane to retrieve those citizens who had been on the rebuffed military planes, but didn't specify when that would occur.

The foreign affairs minister said that a high-level diplomatic meeting between the U.S. and Colombia would take place in a matter of days.
