with his vote against the alcoholic and related statements about him, it seems that McConnell may have had enough of bending the knee to djt. fingers crossed it gets under his skin and he goes off on McConnell when he votes against Gabbard and some other unqualified nominees. 'Deadly serious': Trump warned he needs a 'McConnell strategy' to prevent a GOP revolt - Raw Story The Trump administration needs to come up with a "McConnell strategy" if it doesn't want a full-on Republican revolt to stall the Trump agenda, according to CNN's Manu Raju. Last week, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) defied Trump by breaking with Republicans during the vote to confirm Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense. McConnell's "no" vote, along with that of Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) necessitated a tie-breaker vote from Vice President JD Vance to put Hegseth over the top. On Sunday's Inside Politics, Raju said, "This is something that a former Senate leadership aide told me yesterday about McConnell. He said that, 'There isn't a single ideological similarity between McConnell and the Murkowski/Collins wing of the party, which tells me this. He's deadly serious about being totally uncompromising in his defense and foreign policy views. And two, somebody in the Trump world is going to need to come up with a McConnell strategy because he could be a real problem for their entire agenda if they don't come up with something.'" “We’ll only give so much,” the senator told NBC. “Because this is the future of the country. It’s not entertainment television.”
and the response from the WH is bend the knee or be sure that you will be punished. the senate is there to do what they are told to do and consent to everything that djt wants really hoping the threats make some pubs senators mad enough to stand up for themselves. GOP Senator Warns Trump Nominees Could Start Getting Voted Down — Even As White House Reportedly Threatens ‘Consequences’ Republicans are reportedly starting to run out of patience with President Donald Trump’s national security nominees — as several controversial choices are soon to face confirmation votes in the Senate. According to NBC News, an unnamed Republican senator who has voted for all of Trump’s nominees thus far warned that he and his colleagues could vote down national security picks who “sound more like Tucker Carlson than a Republican.” But the White House is warning of “consequences” for any Republican Senator who does not get on board with Trump’s nominees. “It’s pass-fail. You either support everyone or you don’t,” an unnamed senior White House official told NBC. “The Senate needs to advise and consent, not advise and adjust.” The anonymous official added, “There is a very well-funded consortium of outside groups and political actors that are sophisticated, smart and tough. We’ve already seen that they’ve provided air support and narrative support to some nominees. They’ll still be very well-funded when the nominations are over, and they’ll exact consequences, I’m sure, to those who do not support the president’s nominees and get them to the finish line.”
It's his last term. He won't run again in 2026. Too many health problems. He can be a John McCain for his last two years and it won't really matter. He did enough damage the last 35 years.
yep. When it’s their last term they vote their conscience and what is best for our country vs lock-step whatever Dear Leader tells them.
I have no love for McConnell and generally tried to avoid dealing with his office, but am very familiar with Murkowski. She’s one of the most reliable, competent, and honorable pubs in Congress and a very fierce adversary. Happy to see her taking a stand.
I hope MAGA goes after McConnell full bore. Hopefully enough that some of his allies feel compelled to oppose MAGA and do their job instead of rubber stamp under fear. If threats from the executive branch can control our legislative branch, and apparently it does, are they independent branch of gubmnt anymore? This quote is so out of character Mitch McConnell's vote against Trump nominee Pete Hegseth sparks MAGA fury When asked by another reporter later on Friday if he was disappointed McConnell voted "no" on Hegseth, Trump responded: "I didn't even know that. I just heard that we won. Winning is what matters, right?"
I have zero respect for any of these Trumppublicans who comes to see the light 4-8 years too late, and only occasionally casts a vote against what the criminal desires. (Oh, what fortitude!) If they'd done their actual jobs instead of betraying their responsibilities to our country, and impeached him for criminal behavior on either of the two appropriate occasions, then they wouldn't be dealing with his criminality or lying for him now.
Hes mentally compromised, doubt he knows what hes voting for. Probably his staff that submitted the vote. Will be glad to see him and Pelosi out, both have been a disaster for the country.
McConnell is a Reagan Republican not a member of the Cult of MAGA and since the chances are that he will not be running for reelection in 2026 he isn't susceptible to being primaried unlike the vast majority of Republican Senators (and House members, too for that matter) who have been metaphorically castrated by Trump. Adding the obvious that I'm no fan of Mitch McConnell he is less cognitively compromised than the person responsible for nominating Pete Hegseth to the position for which he is uniquely unqualified based on his credentials alone not even including Hegseth's obvious character issues.
Disagree. Mitch is a George bush, Mitt Romney republican who has managed to siphon more money from the Chinese on a Tuesday than Hunter Biden could do in a lifetime. Lloyd Austin was a defense leftover making millions from Raytheon and had no business as secdef other than to get the admin to purchase more weapons. Good riddance to all of them
There are a few waiting in the weeds. DeSantis for one. Noticeable lack of ass kissing considering he ran on a Smarter Version of MAGA platform. Completely blew Trump off re. the Senate seat and appears to have charted his own course there. Hey, someone has to hold the seat for real conservatism.
Sing it Chomsky!!! Nice to see you coming around the commie rabble rouser side. Noam's been there for 5 decades. I'm sure he welcomes you with open arms. Come on, give me a MIC!!!
worlds quickest honeymoon? 'Chasm' opens in GOP as some Republicans begin to push against Trump plans: NY Times A “chasm” is already opening up between President Donald Trump and a “closely divided Congress,” the New York Times reported Monday. Some Republican members of Congress are already balking over many of his policies, and it’s threatening the loyalty that Trump insists on from members of his party, according to the report. ................... The unpopular proposals include, “Implementing broad tariffs and lowering the corporate tax rate. Those disagreements are at the heart of Republican leaders' efforts to piece together legislation carrying the bulk of Mr. Trump's domestic policy agenda — a massive bill cutting taxes, slashing spending and slowing immigration that they plan to fast-track over the objections of Democrats.” The Times’ report highlights opposition to tariffs from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) as an example of increased questioning of the president’s agenda. "I still don't think tariffs are a good idea. International trade has made the entire world incredibly prosperous, and if you look at GDP per capita over the last 70 years, it's a hockey stick going straight up,” he told the Times.
poor Lindsay...will he be able to recover from this. MAGA starting to eat their own with my way or the highway 'That man is a snake': Lindsey Graham faces MAGA wrath after Trump J6 'mistake' claim MAGA World exploded on Sunday when Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told NBC's Meet The Press that it was a "mistake" for President Donald Trump to given blanket pardons to the Capitol insurrectionists.
