The wealthy do not benefit from FEMA so I certainly understand Trump's motivation. I can personally afford tax increases to cover disaster infrastructure repair in my town... The working class that loves Trump... might sting a little next disaster. Good luck my friends! Trump Proposes 'Getting Rid Of FEMA' While Visiting North Carolina “FEMA has been a very big disappointment,” the Republican president said. “It’s very bureaucratic. And it’s very slow. Other than that, we’re very happy with them.” Trump, who also planned to visit wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles later in the day, said he was looking at signing an executive order on the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “I’d like to see the states take care of disasters,” he said after landing in the Asheville area. “Let the state take care of the tornadoes and the hurricanes and all of the other things that happen.” “FEMA just hasn’t done the job,” the president said. “We’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA.”
He'll replace it with something really terrific! He might call it Musk Relief! “I’d like to see the states take care of disasters,” he said after landing in the Asheville area. “Let the state take care of the tornadoes and the hurricanes and all of the other things that happen.” DeSantis will immediately seek to give back all relief money from recent hurricanes. Right?
The GoP seems to want individual countries and not States. Sooner or later the Prez, will say, wait, wut…. Lol
according to my Swiss buds, the cantons (states) collect taxes, decide what they need for their canton & send the remainder to the feds. It seems if we go the this Big Gov Donnie route, our states should do the same. &, heck, it's not like Cali is some welfare state like Alaska.
So no more checks from FEMA deposited into folks accounts within 72 hours of a major CAT 4 or 5 storm? Do you think Florida can afford to establish such a fund? If a major storm slams into Mar-A-lago in Palm Beach County, are we all supposed to help pay for repairs? Will our prop insurance companies pony up? I can assure you that states like Oklahoma and Missouri can't pay for tornado aftermath. This would be so laughable an idea if it wasn't being floated as a real possibility.
I suspect Commie Donnie likes this idea b/c it would give him more discretion. He loves making his subjects beholden to him. With their own money.
So I'm sure he will be more than happy to dole out aid to states he likes and screw the rest. How about CA just keeps the $83 billion is pays in more to the fed than it gets back? Talk about wanting to have it both ways. So kiss the ring and the ass, or no fed aid for you.
He's reverting to old school republicans. By "old school", I mean 1789. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were insistent that power should remain in the hands of the states, with a weak federal government. Fortunately, we had George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, who were both smarter and wiser than those two, leading the Federalists.
as usual no rational response or debate. My dog offers more in the way of political discourse with his farts than you do.
LOL - this phrasing reminds me of the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode when Larry David would wear a MAGA hat so nobody would sit next to him at restaurants.
The reason why FEMA flood insurance exists is because private companies either couldn’t or wouldn’t handle the risk. Good luck without it. Floridas citizens insurance is a grift pool that keeps having to change its own rules, and offer less coverage, to eek by… not a great example of what’s to come.
As Milton Friedman once said (from memory), "If you like socialism you must think the post office, the VA and FEMA are doing a good job. Local gov't is more efficient than state gov't. States spend money more efficiently than the Feds. Small school districts spend money better than large districts and the kids get a better education. UPS is more efficient than the USPS. In a disaster area the state should provide resources if counties can't handle the problem. If absolutely necessary the Feds can provide money to states--no incompetent FEMA bureaucracy needed. Helping a state as rich and insane as California is another story. They defunded firefighters and diverted water from where it was needed most. People assumed powerful positions based on DEI and not merit. Let the state bail out ĹA. Any federal help should only come after big reforms are passed. Subsidizing stupidity is a moral hazard.
Bluke : "Trump carves up all the libbies! It's so awesome!! Just yesterday he carved up this guy called 'slayerxing' on a message board!! It was so awesome that I didn't even do a GIF! "We're finally.....winning!!" #SAD
What does Trump have to do with the number of LA firefighters? On a per capita basis the number of LA firefighter is far below the 1960 number. The LA firefighters should have been pre-deployed and working double shifts. The Santa Inez reservoir should not have been drained. Brush should be cleared. Water delivery infrastructure should be much improved. More firebreaks needed. A system where firefighters or drones can more rapidly get to a fire is needed. Unfortunately Democrats focused on DEI. More smart dudes and fewer lesbiansa1 in top positions would be a good start.
