OT: I don’t want to start a new thread, but I got served some news from the algorithm after clicking on the egg price link and the world of chicken husbandry. PSA: please be intentional about your genetic discharge in Mississippi. “Mississippi state Sen. Bradford Blackmon, a Democrat, introduced a bill this week that would seemingly ban men from masturbating or engaging in other sexual acts when they have no "intent to fertilize an embryo." The bill, titled the "Contraception Begins at Erection Act," would make it unlawful for "a person to discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo." It includes exceptions for sperm donation and using contraception to prevent fertilization. The bill, introduced Monday, would impose fines of $1,000 for a first offense, $5,000 for a second offense and $10,000 for any subsequent offenses. In a statement to NBC affiliate WLBT of Jackson, Blackmon referred to the high number of state legislative bills introduced in recent years that target women's access to reproductive health care, specifically abortion and contraception.” Mississippi lawmaker introduces 'Contraception Begins at Erection Act'
Uhh no. There were *zero* eggs at the local Publix yesterday. It’s a widespread shortage again due to avian flu.
You do know why they are going up? For one, California is up to their normal shenanigans. Starting in 2025, no poultry company can house chickens in large warehouses (not a bad idea really), so chicken farms like mom and pops are the only farms allowed under California law. That drastically reduced the availability of eggs by nearly 60% and California is the largest producer of eggs on the planet. There just aren't that many small farms that can make up the difference and the larger producers are still trying to comply with the new law. The other issue is bird flu has resulted into well over 100 million chicken killings and that takes time to replenish. Come back when you are more coherent. This has nothing to do with Trump or Biden, it's all on California for enacting a regulation at the wrong time.
And also a new California regulation that has reduced eggs by 60%. California is the largest producer of eggs in the world so imagine if 60% went poof. I get what they are trying to do: organic, free-range chickens which reduces green house gases around these chicken factories. But keep in mind although I prefer organic myself, they are very expensive. We started our coop last year and get a half dozen eggs every day so we don't buy anymore. We like ours better than store bought, even the organic brands because the one thing you can do raising your own chickens is the eggs are fresher. We never put ours in the refrigerator, they don't need it for 2 months. As long as you keep the eggs in cartons unwashed (key point), they last for 2 months.
U.S. top 10 states by number of laying hens 2023 | Statista California is only the 10th state, not “largest egg producer on the planet”, so while the law you talk about appears real I think you are overstating its impact relative to the avian flu outbreak.
CA is not the largest producer, and I’m not worried about it. I had just bought a dozen on a previous trip. Just happened to note they were out this time. They’ve been struggling for a few years now, and this is the 2nd really bad avian flu outbreak in 4 years. Hopefully it bounces back but I’d expect it to take many months just as it did last time.
This past Wednesday, saw a homeless guy take a rotisserie chicken right out the front door in front of the manager at our local Publix. Texted my wife about it and she replied the joke's on him for stealing a quail. I went back and looked and I'll be darned, those things are tiny now.
Trump has just signed an EO for "In God We Trust" to be replaced on dollar bills with "Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch."
It's bc he kicked all the illegal immigrants that make eggs out. Damn. Shoulda kept Doh! Biden's raping murder'n M13 gang bangers around, so eggs would be cheaper.
You really shouldn’t rely on leftist states. Try to be self-sufficient and live within your means. JK!
Another insane title. Deranged. Trump took office Tuesday, and he magically killed the egg industry. No, it increased 37% last year and began in 2022 when the largest bird flu outbreak took place in the US. That would have happened on the Big Guys watch. Whole Foods hasn't had cage-free and pasture eggs for almost a month. Trumps fault. Stellantis responds to Trump's tariff threat, will restart Illinois plant and build new Durango in Detroit
Wait, you mean that not every price increase is the fault of the President? A lot has changed since Monday (which is when he took office, BTW).
