I’m sure if you took out the first 4 games of the season the numbers wouldn’t look as mediocre. I know a season is still a season but it was humming a bit better after DJ & Baugh settled in.
On short yardage goal-line O, once we get Stephon Shivers, either at running back, blocking back, or tush push pushing back, the ball will get over the goal line. It's going to be fun to see.
You cannot look at those stats in a vacuum. We also had one of the hardest schedules in the country to compete against. Half of our regular season games had defenses ranked in the top 35 of scoring defenses nationally. Three of which were in the top 7. The worst being 35th and giving up 22 ppg. We averaged over 24 ppg against those six top ranked defenses. We scored more points on every one of those six than they gave up on average. A mediocre offense doesn’t score 24 on a defense team that averages giving up 14.4 per game like ours did. The first half of the season we had a defense that couldn’t get off the field and reduced our offensive possessions. Once our defensive issues were resolved, you saw our offense doing just fine against top ranked defenses. Roll in that for a game and a half, we had a walkon QB and it becomes a little more obvious that our offensive rankings are heavily skewed. When you look at things like average yards per rush, you’ll find us right there with Oregon, Bama, and UGA; none of which would someone question their ability to run efficiently. Most of the teams that lead in things like rushing per game do not run anything close to a balanced offense.
Intentional game plan, power running, spreading the ball around on offense attacking all three levels. Lags having a 60+ completion %
Toss sweep left, toss sweep right, toss sweep left, toss sweep right. Reverses, misdirection, shovel pass to tight end. Run that defense ragged! Work'em silly!
Stop being cute with the play calling..... establish a clear identity. For the next 2 seasons, would like to see a downhill run game with Baugh. Deep playaction with Lagway.... in between using his athleticism.
Not in the Napier playbook. He likes to throw behind the line of scrimmage on a 8man defensive lineup on 3 &5. Scared money don’t make money, his words!
You sure? Just skimmed through the introductory presser and don’t see that anywhere. Thought that was a quip from a halftime interview while at ULL.
4 WR. So much speed and skill sitting on the sideline. TE is IMO the weakest position group on the team.
Hopefully the te that took a shirt has the goods. He was certainly highly rated. Can he block would be the question. Bordingham was a promising receiver but wasnt the word is he just couldnt block?
I like our TE group next year, although I do think outside of Hansen and Rillos, there is a lot of young, still unproven, talent! If Livingston and Amir Jackson really step up that will be an exciting group. I do agree with your point, though; there are too many better wr's being idle! I think the Gators should put their best weapons on the field, but I doubt we will see a four wide receiver set from BN!
I dunno, will Napier's offense highlight a TE with great receiving skills? Was Kyle Pitts a great blocker? My recollection is he lined up and just went out and caught passes. It worked.
There is talk about the Gators making the playoffs next year. Despite being a fairly optimistic fan, the Gators will have to play much better in the three phases of the game for that to happen; as well as Lagway staying healthy. Personally, I expect the Gators will be much improved and prefer to leave it at that!
I believe the 12 teams in the play offs had max three losses. Tall order. Maybe two SEC teams finished the season with two losses? Too lazy to look. If we went 9-3 I would be good with it. That's improvement, helps recruiting, and we play a significant bowl.
