Where I am in PA Sunday Night: 4" - 6" inches of snow. Monday: 6F Tuesday: 5F Wed: 4F Today: 8F Oh yeah - That 4" - 6" is now an ice sheet! To cold to melt! Lovely week!
With the addition of Harrison Bailey, we are 87th in the transfer portal now per 247. So, that's a little better. But, I was wondering about this myself, while also noting that we now have a combined total of 30 new faces incoming to the class via a Top 10 ranked HS recruitment and portal cycle. Additionally, we have at least one crystal ball (Konanbanny) for the upcoming NSD. So, my question is, are we pretty much full up now, or do we still have any major deficiencies left in particular areas? DL comes to mind with all the recent defections.
I definitely think that was part of the purpose of Foley's mandate to "clean up the program." It wasn't just about upgrading the character of the roster.
DL....LB appears pretty set, although with James, Moten, and Wingo's departure there isn't as much experienced depth there. CB is iffy with the departure of Jackson, Bridges, and Marshall. It would be very sweet if Moore can get through a season unscathed, but that hasn't happened in his career yet.
About 6 inches In the Panhandle along I10 so they shut it down from Tallahassee to Pensacola. No equipment to clear it.
Our defense has very few starters left that are big impact players. Take our linebackers for instance, there's a lot of potential there and we think they are going to be good, but that is if.
Walter nolen was a beast last year for ole miss, especially against us. I wish we could get someone at his level. He was a portal gem.
I dont think we grabbed anyone from tge portal on d that will have that kind of impact. Gonna rest on our yoingsters taking tgat next step i guess
It's like that every year. We were complaining their first year that Jackson and Banks just weren't the answer. Then this past year they were, and the sky is falling because one of them isn't here next year, while we get back an injured starter and saw 2 freshman play a lot of snaps. If that's an "if", it's an "if" I am not worried about. Would I like another DT? Yes, but if it means breaking the bank to get a guy the equivalent of Jackson to move here versus getting solid db cover, I don't see it happening.
"left"? I don't think we really lost any impact players....Pyburn is a very effective role player and Shemar is steady and reliable but doesn't really change a game. Marshall we lost mid season, IMO Bridges is the biggest impact loss. I do think the list of guys that are "potentially" impact players is nice. Pup, Thornton, Graham, Chiles, Gumbs, McCray, Moore, Gates. And that's not counting any of the freshman. I would consider Banks a proven impact guy
I recall Taylor getting his snaps at DT. He has DE size, but plays like a DT. Sapp is very twitchy, quick and bendy. Taylor is more country strong, thats' the way he plays. I’ll pay attention to where he plays in the spring.
The explanation is pretty simple. CBN has rebuilt the roster, it’s pretty set. Just no room for a dozen transfers. Cam Parker keeps a running update of the roster- it’s excellent. I’ll ink it one more time. The Count to 105: Florida Gators Roster Updates Gators are at the max of 85 scholarship players. It’s not a hard 85 until the fall and of course there’ll be some attrition in the spring, but there’s not a lot of fat to trim. The guys at the bottom of the depth chart looking for PT have mostly already transferred. For the final roster I hope CBN adds another NT, edge and ILB (only 6ILBs on scholarship), but the roster would have to lose three players at other positions. We’ll see how it works out.
That’s just not accurate my friend. It’s college, not the NFL. The roster turns over every 3 to 4 years. Attrition is a way of life. For next year the Gators return a lot of production and developing high end players. For example: Edge: I can’t remember the last time the Gators returned this much production and upside potential. UF’s two deep may be the best in the nation. For deep depth, Asare has more sacks against SEC teams than LSU starter Jack Pyburn- that’s a fun fact. DT: UF returns 5 of their top top 7 players and most productive DT from the last half of the season. ILB: Return 4 of the top 5 guys with more upside potential than maybe any other ILB room in the country. One of the reasons the most experienced guy left is because he’d have trouble cracking the rotation in 2025. DBs: Return 7 of the top 9 guys. One of the two not returning (Marshall) was already replaced in 2024; he missed the last half of the season.
You might be on to something with Brown. I listened to Gator podcast in the car this morning. They were talking about potential breakout players for next year; they were hyped about Brown. They said he stepped up in bowl practice and was in the rotation in the game. I was there and didn't notice; you can follow a game much better on TV. The talk is he could end up around 310lbs with high end quickness, very interesting. He may be part of the reason UF hasn't added a DT from the portal.
