4PM announcement of major infrastructure initiative... massive... the biggest ever. No idea what it is. Maybe a Space thing with Elon?

While I make fun, I am in favor of infrastructure improvements.

Trump White House promises "massive" infrastructure announcement | Reuters

WASHINGTON, Jan 21 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump will make a "massive" infrastructure announcement on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, echoing an unrealized promise during Trump's first term to bolster aging America's roads, bridges and other networks.

"It's going to be a massive announcement and it's going to prove that the world knows that America is back," Leavitt said in an interview with "Fox & Friends." The announcement would be at 4 p.m. (2100 GMT), Leavitt said without providing additional detail.

We're going to have bridges like no one has ever seen. And the water pipes they're going to... people said we have such old ones, round and such, everyone knows it's good to use not round ones.

Our roads and highways, they're going to be so, everyone always says to me "why do I have so many potholes", well let me say that we won't have any immigrants driving old trucks tearing up our roads anymore. We're going to the moon. Should be there by April and cereal will be cheap by then soon.

I was hoping for a portal rather than an AI investment but I’ll take it. Trump knocking it out of the park

Misread this. This is just a bunch of companies getting together. Has nothing to do with public funding. It’s just a JV.

Donald Trump to unveil $100bn AI infrastructure investment

“Donald Trump is set to unveil billions of dollars of private investment in a massive new artificial intelligence infrastructure venture backed by OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle. Dubbed Stargate, the joint venture was poised to receive an initial cash injection of $100bn from the tech giants, rising to as much as $500bn over the next four years, according to two people familiar with the matter.”

Oh good, it will be controlled by Softbank: the funders of FTX and WeWork who has lost billions in the last few years due to terrible investments. What could go wrong?

    It could be public funds.

So when AI takes all of our jobs and we all have to get on UBI we can point to this as a good catalyst

It probably will be. If there is one thing that sounds like a good idea, it is putting a company who has spent the entire decade so far losing billions of dollars on terrible tech investments (including an outright scam in which the CEO is now in prison and another one that was one of the most complete but hilarious failures in tech) in charge of large sums of taxpayer money for tech investments.

I didn’t see that in any of the articles. Can you post where you see this?

I didn't, probably should have put a question mark at the end of the statement: It could be public funds? You remember, like Solyndra. I think the government lost over $500 million on that Obama era project.

I see. This is a private JV.

The news (buried in the headline) is this is more about the Fed government under Trump being less restrictive on trying to regulate AI.

The question for American workers is: who moved my cheese (as AI replaces existing human jobs)? Altman and friends seem to believe that it will create new jobs. To be determined, but Americans will need to retool faster.

That fund made money. About $3 billion on about $14 Billion in investment. In comparison, SoftBank's big fund lost $55 Billion combined in 2022 and 2023.
