That morning was damn cold (Sub 15 degrees)....we aren't expecting that at all this year. I don't think I've seen a f'cast where we are supposed to be below 28 in G'ville yet. Whatever ice we get is going to begin melting immediately after it hits because the ground isn't cold enough for it to stick long.
I'd say we got a good 4 inches of snow so far and it's coming down harder than ever without slowing down
The bridges and overpasses in Gainesville froze in the 1989 storm and a lot of people were sliding into the ditches and railings.
Feel for ya, lived in and around Chicago myself, 80s, 90s. My coldest day was -27F, actual, not wind chill and it was a bright blue day outside. I live in Eagles Country now, as in the Philadelphia Eagles. Ain't exactly great here either, 4" snow, frozen in place, cause we are hitting single digits here.
The problem will be black ice, even for Gainesville. Supposed to get a lot of rain before the sleet/ice starts to fall. Then it's supposed to drop to 27 two nights in a row afterwards with little sun in the day so road water will refreeze.
Anyone still awake in Gainesville that can give a report? Radar shows a pocket of blue precip over Gville not long ago. Was it frozen rain or snow?
My sister and niece in Navarre and Gulf Breeze had a decent amount of snow, easily a few inches. Hope it doesn't kill off the palm trees. So much for the oranges We could use some snow in the Sierras. I'll take what Fla got! I was in Mammoth skiing last week and thank God their snowmaking is cranking-cuz snowfall has been pretty abysmal this year. Gosh, I hope the Florida drivers are careful. Doing 360's unintentionally ushers in a sense of lost control. Go Gators.
