This is a pretty basic first amendment issue. No reason for the government to be attempting to control social media. They can post on social media just like everyone else explaining their position.

I cant keep up. There is a bill tied up in court related to Florida wanting to fine social media companies if a political candidate is banned. They did this because of Trump being banned and there is a trial set for next year. Trump said he was in favor of the bill. Does this order now mean that he thinks that Desantis should stop his fight?

Propaganda is greater than truth. Analytics are fine tuning behavior. Make Reynolds great again.

Most executive orders are unenforceable and mainly "directive" in nature. The key phrase here is "unconstitutional." This seems aimed at Murthy v. Missouri, where a few red states sued the government because Biden requested (but not ordered) content changes. The courts said the states lacked standing and ultimately the government prevailed, but I suppose it wasn't a full "merits" decision. It was laughable that even asking someone to get their facts right and voluntarily making corrections was somehow a "violation" of the first amendment. Fortunately the court didnt create a silly precedent. I dont think this order will do much of anything, as social media is basically controlled by right-wingers anyways so the Trump administration doesnt need to push back on them, nor do they care about factually accurate content. Will it even be tested?

That’s a good question. can companies censor their own social media platforms? Can Fox or CNN stop hate speech? Or ban someone who keeps doing it? And how about thfsg?

Government set up protections in Section 230 from citizens and at the same time Government cannot tell Social Media what to do to protect the citizens.

This is some Yossarin level “to live forever, or die in the attempt”.

    No no no.

You see what they mean is right-wing propaganda must go unchecked, and platforms can’t have any guardrails in place against this. Indeed they must be punished severely for even attempting @ correcting or fact checking a right wing lie.

On the flip side, it is social media’s duty to the state to silence left wing opinion which counters right win propaganda, failure to do so will also be met with severe punishment.

This session, we took action to ensure that ‘We the People’ — real Floridians across the Sunshine State — are guaranteed protection against the Silicon Valley elites,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Many in our state have experienced censorship and other tyrannical behavior firsthand in Cuba and Venezuela. If Big Tech censors enforce rules inconsistently, to discriminate in favor of the dominant Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable.”

Don’t agree, but to carry your formula out… Free lies = paid fact checkers

Business pitch: don’t miss the boat on this industry — invest now. You can pay someone to filter out the lies to get to your preferred truth.
