APPLICATION OF PROTECTING AMERICANS FROM FOREIGN ADVERSARY CONTROLLED APPLICATIONS ACT TO TIKTOK – The White House China will continue to collect data on US citizens and the law can be safely ignored for 75 days.
This is one of the few things I agree with. If the government has proof the Chinese government is using data for some bad purpose, show it ... the argument that they "could be" is weak as hell. I personally think they should bar all corporations from collecting data. This is protectionism sponsored by Zuck and Musk, who collect the same data and allow developers in Russia and China to access the data ... it's always been bullshit.
Yep. I agree that TikTok is harvesting info but they could just as easily buy it from all the American internet companies that are harvesting information as fast as they can.
The real issue is their ability to change their algorithm to push whatever content they want to that supports whatever political stance the CCP has.
Not so fast WonTon. After GOP senators explain the 'golden share' Xi holds with all Chinese companies to Trump, this deal is dead.
So your argument is that the guy who claims to be a businessman (with business interests in China) and spent 4 years as President doesn't understand how business works in China?
Uhhh… isn’t that pretty well known already? That the CCP mandates foreign companies form a “Joint Venture” with a Chinese firm? That is not news. It’s bs on the part of the Chinese. But shouldn’t be news to anyone paying attention.
The key from @ThePlayer 's post is that someone smarter than Trump has to explain it him ... probably with small words and pictures.
He and Musk. Right in Xi's back pocket. All you need is a pen to sign the check and whatever policy you want you can have. Maybe the immigrants should just pool their money.
They're the CCP, what other purpose would they have? Why do they insist on maintaining the ability to collect it? Why do they ban it, FB, X and all the rest in China, but promote it here? The math isn't that hard dude. They're not good guys. They're basically the Nazis without the Jewish/Racial Superiority (though that is implied to the population) policy. They learned the lesson, so it's a softer approach. Soft Fascism. . . until it's time to lose the "soft" part.
At this point, there is no public information being provided by the US government that shows (a) TikTok is giving the data to the Chinese government and (b) China has found some way to use that data that could harm Americans... all I'm saying is that if there is a "national security threat" posed by TikTok, then make the case for it to the American people ... if it's convincing, I'll change my mind. But this reminds me of the recent thread about Cuba being on the US's list of terrorist sponsoring governments, even though there are no examples of Cuba sponsoring terrorism. Meanwhile, it's well know the US sponsored an attempted coup in Cuba ...
1. They have access whenever they want it (by law). That's enough for me. ; 2. It's horrible and is being proven to be harmful - especially to children - in study after study. 3. It's "features" can easily be replaced with a host of similar apps. Thus, no 1st Amendment issue whatsoever. 4. It pisses the CCP off! Again, works for me.
I don’t disagree with most of that, and i understand that Chinese law says they have to hand over the data if asked, but banning it because it’s harmful to children shouldn’t be limited to one app from one country. Facebook and others have similar scrolling video players. I don’t use TikTok, but from the people I know that do, they say it’s the best at showing you what you want to see and it’s not even close. Facebook has failed to emulate their “algorithm”, and the youth has gone to TikTok while Facebook has become grandma’s platform. which is probably why Zuck apparently pushed for the ban and paid firms to lobby against TikTok. Then beyond that, even if put in the CCP, what is the harm of the CCP knowing how many hours some kids spend scrolling videos and what they like to watch? Anyway, Trump delaying the ban was a huge win for him with young voters and makes Biden and the congressional democrat look like giant fools for going against them, just to have the rug pulled out from under them at the last minute. I’ve been saying all along with was a disaster in the making for the Dems, who court young voters, and Trump just made even bigger fools of them. They pissed off their future voters and made Trump their hero savior.
Lol... since when is a business decision equal to comforting... aiding/abetting criminals the same thing? Yeah, nice try... Has nothing to do with sanctuary...
Oh, don't get me started on the others. FB doesn't care what you want, it feeds you what it knows it can get a reaction/engagement from you on. Two examples of FB's evil. 1. While banned for saying basically nothing (g.y, I think), it continued to feed me a bunch of really divisive shit, and allow me to engage with the crap, but never with my groups, friends, etc. 2. After this, I made a concerted attempt over a month to block the divisive spam sites. To no avail. If anything, it sent me more. 3. Someone stole my profile and put Sr. at the end. I am a Jr, but my dad goes by our middle name. I requested it be removed as it was fake. Their response: "Upon further review we have decided not to grant your request. That was it and I've been done with FB ever since. Too bad, because it has value (especially in its original form), but they're just too evil and greedy. Burn it to the ground! Burn them all to the ground.
The "young voters" will be over it within a month, when the newer and more vapid POS app gives them something to waste their brains on.
I understand the issues raised by some of you, but ultimately the law is on the books. For whatever reason, President Musk, managed to secure a non-legally binding Executive Order that states the law can be disregarded without facing any repercussions. Rand Paul is proposing a law to repeal the TikTok ban. That’s the way it should be done.
