Loved Shaq and Penny together. (Magic fan since day one) Hated him when he left for LA...but he long since won me back over. The Diesel is hilarious.
As much as I despise L$Who, Shaq is an incredible human being who has made the world a better place. His charity work and community outreach here in ATL is unmatched.
The news just showed that video..and commentators couldn't believe how tall our player is and only a freshman...they mentioned how he plays for the Florida Gators good publicity on a national show for us.. I always liked Shaq..he did appear at one of our Lady basketball games.
I had the exact same encounter with Shaq in Orlando when he was visiting the hospital. I turned a corner and bumped into him, slowly looked up...and up. His entourage and the press all broke out in laughter.
I used to work for Jerry Shay, Bayou Pipe Co. At the time Jerry was the head of the LSU alumni association. He always had one of Shaq's giant sneakers on his desk. NOBODY got to touch or handle the shoe! Seeing is believing. Shaq would make a good bigfoot actor for a movie. LOL
I'm really looking forward to seeing Big Ollie get some playing time next season. And they had the right plan for him; let him work on strength, quickness, and coordination before he gets into a D1 game. Now we need to get him on the gridiron next fall on the kick-block team.
First time I saw Shaq was '89-90 season. I was crossing the O'Dome floor OTW to the hoops band seats and looking up at two 7' guys warming up: Shaq & Stanley Roberts. Thought to myself "it's going to be a long night." Meanwhile Schintzius quit or was kicked off the team and another player quit. We were down to Dwayne Davis down low against a ranked LSU team and their twin towers. We whipped that team's a$$ that night on national TV (NT was a thing back then).
Schintzius and Livingston Chatman both quit because of “Captain Ahab.” Dickie V was doing the game and said he would stand on his head if Gators won. He actually did after the game. I was at the game, but for reasons I can’t remember I got there some way into the first half.
Thanks - I always forget Chatman's name. He was a heck of a player, but for the injuries (or was that Stacey Poole?). Chatman was talented for sure.
Chatman had a severe knee injury and never reached his potential. His first game as a Freshman he scored (I think) 25 against Georgia Tech. Tech had a guy whose name I forget (Dennis something who had a good NBA career) and Liv outplayed him.
