Trump launches his own $TRUMP meme coin, price soars overnight President-elect Donald Trump launched his own cryptocurrency on Friday, sparking a feverish buying that apparently sent its market capitalization soaring to several billion dollars. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform and X, Trump unveiled the so-called meme coin, which is designed to capitalize on the popularity of a certain personality, movement or viral internet trend. "My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! It's time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING!" he wrote. ——————— No doubt he would not have been able to do this without dad’s money. I called this the other day when people were expecting an announcement from Trump on crypto. Some were expecting an announcement about crypto and taxes and I knew it would just be another gift
One can never underestimate the ability of Donald Trump to monetize the presidency and I suspect that sooner or later the value of the coin will tank leaving followers of Donnie holding the bag.
Man, just think of all of the taxable income (and tax revenue for the US Treasury) that will generated as these $trumps are traded. Maybe Congress can finally pass a balanced budget.
If any Democrat did this MAGA would never stop talking about it for the rest of time. But here we are. Normalized grifting by our president elect.
Trump is like those millionaire televangelists that ask for even more money so they can replace their private jets
He is in government on Monday. And he gets reports as to who invests in his stuff with literally no value other than making him money.
Is he even asking people to invest at all? Looks like he dropped a meme coin and let the market do its thing.
Curious how so? If we're considering this a grift, hasn't pretty much every president since at least Clinton been involved in some sort of grift? What is the difference in setting up a "global initiative" and raking in millions of dollars from unsavory international players and creating a MEME coin? In many ways, a Trump meme coin is more noble and transparent than attempting to cloak his grift as something benevolent. Although I am not sure we can classify this as a "grift" considering I haven't seen Trump pushing folks to buy in with a bunch of promises. (profits, world peace, etc etc)
