Too funny. When one can't admit they were wrong 100% on something then they deserve to just be laughed at.

What am I wrong about? That 70+ year old man-made reservoirs need regular maintenance? LOL, am I right? Or January is best time on the calendar in LA to do such maintenance because it's usually weeks after the Santa Ana winds end, during the wet season meaning Mother Nature will hopefully help, and you should have a full staff post holidays. Just 100% wrong and hilarious!!!

And high desert scrub! It's just like an old growth forest. 100% the same! The only difference is the name!!! Now I'm rolling on the floor......

Ok, now I'm back. The LAFD being shorthanded just happened after the new lesbian chief was hired. I was wrong about that too, despite the fact that I linked a report showing how the LAFD was shorthanded over a decade ago! Just ignore that. It's irrelevant, because....well just because if you have to ignore it, because I must be 100% wrong!!!!!

OK, enough with the snark. Do you have anything cogent to add to the argument?

Across the board fail, including the DEI Fire Chief.

Patrick Butler, a former L.A.F.D. assistant chief who is now chief of the Redondo Beach, Calif., fire department, said that positioning firefighters and equipment near fire zones in significant numbers well in advance during periods of high wildfire danger has long been a key strategy in the department. “It’s unfathomable to me how this happened, except for extreme incompetence and no understanding of fire operations,” he said.

Others said the fire chief should have kept both the incoming and outgoing shifts of firefighters on duty before the fire as a precaution.

“I can’t speak to why she didn’t exercise it, but it’s a known tactic and it would have doubled the work force,” said Rick Crawford, a former L.A.F.D. battalion chief who is now the emergency and crisis management coordinator for the U.S. Capitol. “I’m not saying it would have prevented the fire, or that the fire wouldn’t have gotten out of control. But she lost a strategic advantage by not telling the off-going shift, ‘You shall stay and work.’

I bet the next fire chief is a man. Hopefully not another DEI hire. Women/lesbians did great harm to the LA Fire Dept. Now the men are starting to speak up

This can’t be right. Experts on here have said there’s absolutely nothing that could have been done. Seems like keyboard jockeys would know better

use more goats or prisoners for veg removal after record rainy season?

shut powerlines down at 50 instead of 60?

My S-I-L's home in Brentwood was spared. The fires close to the area she lives have been contained. She is still staying with relatives in the Santa Barbara / Montecito area but her housekeeper and husband checked on her house for her yesterday as residents are now permitted access to their properties.

The housekeeper said the house and contents are fine and the private security that patrols the neighborhood is again guarding and checking the houses. The power and gas were turned off shortly after the fires ignited so the contents of the freezers and refrigerators are rotting. Housekeeper said it smelled like "dead animals."

Residents in that area were informed the power would be restored possibly within 24 hours, but it might take as long as 3 weeks. Much uncertainty.

The fate of my niece's home near the Getty and her brother's home in Malibu are still unknown. The home of another nephew who lived in the Palisades was destroyed.

Click the links to view photos of the Palisades terrain. Spurred by the wind this is what caught fire and spread from hillsides through canyons to homes so devastatingly quick.

The much larger problem wasn't how the fires were handled once they struck, it was the malfeasance in lack of preparation.

Rick Caruso the candidate who lost to Karen Bass in the 2022 Los Angeles Mayoral election raked the city over coals. The local politicians screwed up in a major way. That being said Caruso also said that disaster assistance shouldn't be conditional. By the way and although it's very early I'm predicting that he will be the next mayor of the city. Bass demonstrated her incompetence and to top matters off she was in Ghana when she should have been in LA.
Rick Caruso Tells Bill Maher He Predicted Palisades Fire

Great commentary by Maher including castigaing the DEI Fire chief and her Deputy Chief also a lesbian and apparently another DEI hire.

One of the reasons that I admire Maher is that he is a classic liberal who is not afraid to criticize incompetent lefties.

The first chief being a woman or lesbian has nothing to do with her incompetence. Now.. it may have a LOT to do with why she was hired for the position but the incompetence isn’t related to gender or sexuality… it related to someone who was unable and ill qualified for the job.
Far too many mistakes have been made in the recent past and present as well as long term in regards to fighting wild fires in California.

One channel did an interview with one of the DC10 pilots that drops the fire retardant to creat lanes and fire breaks. Some points he made that I thought were interesting.

No one could fly At early onset due to winds. Even ground crews were struggling to deploy. Ground crews have the toughjobs.

Drones are a huge problem and a sighting shuts down an airspace. Airspace is very tight in that area. From canyons to commercial traffic. Nascar flying.

First time he had fought a US fire n January. Usually they use Jan-Feb for resert, training or are down in South America.

Takes 20 minutes to load retardant once parked at airfield.

One of the Canadian super scoopers was actually struck by a drone. Fortunately it was able to return to action, but not hard to see a drone strike ending up fatal.

The FBI is trying to find the person. Not sure they suspect anything nefarious/intentional, probably some idiot trying to get fire footage for social media. I assume they must control the airspace in emergencies so at best it involves idiocy (and if the gov wasn’t locking down the airspace where these planes were flying that would be a different form of idiocy). Those planes do obviously fly low so not hard to see civilian drones easily at that altitude.

I saw the drone parts. Based on what I saw they’ll have no problem finding the person. Looked like the drone pieces were all intact so the serial number tracing will get the person.

My sister-in-law, mentioned in earlier posts on this thread knows Caruso, told me a number of his friends, Republican friends, are urging him to run for governor. He self describes as a centrist.

Why did Caruso quit GOP, re-up, quit again? Don’t ask
"With less than a week until the Los Angeles mayoral primary, Rick Caruso’s political evolution from Republican to Democrat still remains opaque to many voters in the overwhelmingly liberal city he hopes to lead.

"It’s widely known that Caruso, who was a Republican for much of his life, switched his party registration to “decline to state” in 2011 while mulling over a run in the city’s 2013 mayoral election. It’s also widely known that Caruso changed his party affiliation to Democratic in late January of this year, less than a month before filing to run in the 2022 mayoral election.

"Less attention has been paid to the fact that Caruso re-registered as a Republican in March 2016, according to records from the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder/county clerk’s office. Caruso kept his Republican Party affiliation until mid-November 2019, when he changed his registration back to “no party preference,” according to county records.

"All told, the real estate developer has changed his party registration four times in the last 11 years, shifting twice between Republican and no party preference before re-registering as a Democrat about four months ago."

    ________________

Caruso said he was proud to be a Democrat when asked about his changes in political affiliation. He said voters in the city don’t care about his political affiliation. They are more concerned with "crime and homelessness and corruption.” This Republican-turned-centrist Democrat sits on the board of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and is promising to expand spending on police, not defund them.

    Rick Caruso Switching Sides… Again?
Failed LA Mayor candidate funding Democrats
By Thomas Buckley, November 7, 2023

Billionaire Developer Rick Caruso, who spent $104 million last year in his failed campaign to become mayor of Los Angeles, appears to be politically reinventing himself once again: the former Republican donor and Trump appointee is now rebranding himself as a Democrat kingmaker.

And maybe thinking about being a king – or at least a mayor or governor – himself.

Recently, Caruso pledged to spend an undisclosed sum in 2024 to defeat five California Republican members of Congress.

“We’ve got to get things moving and get out of this ridiculous constant fighting and everybody kicking sand in each other’s face in the sandbox,” Caruso told Politico’s Christopher Cadelago and Melanie Mason of his plans. He will “(S)tick with the central theme of getting moderates in the House,” Caruso said. “I am not out to support extremists or, frankly, ideologues.”

    __________

This tragic turn of events in Los Angeles clearly has Caruso fired up.
