Even grading on the curve, Trump gets an "F." Consistently rated one of the 5 WORST presidents in US history.
Said it before, within six months it will become apparent why Trump was defeated when he ran for reelection four years ago and no matter how MAGA nation and the right-wing media try to spin it winning the popular vote by a 1.6% margin does not give the president a mandate to institute radical change. Although his EC margin was slightly larger than Biden's in 2020 or Bush's in 2004 it was still smaller than Obama's in 2008 and 2012 or Clinton's in 1992 and 1996.
Voters in 2016: "Anything is better than traditional politicians, even a goofy TV personality" Voters in 2020: "Shit. That was a disaster. Anything is better than a goofy TV personality, even a super old traditional politician" Voters in 2024: "Anything is better than traditional politicians, even a goof TV personality"
So accurate. When the USA collapsed in 2017 it is only because of heroic actions by Biden that resurrected our country. Oh, wait…
You got the years wrong. Trump totally botched covid, by choosing to repeatedly lie to the country about it. Biden bailed us out after that.
You could not be more incorrect about this. A strong response from a competent leader would have improved his ratings. Hell, even a generally incompetent W. Bush got a ratings boost for rallying the "troops" after 9/11. When you spout bullshit like: Covid will be gone when the weather warms up. Maybe we should try disinfectants. Introduce light into the body. Your ratings will go down. No one with an above room temperature IQ believed that nonsense, it was embarrassing to the country that's its leader was saying that crap and insulting to most who had to listen to it. His ratings went down due to his ignorance and incompetence.
I’d give Biden a B for the position he was put in. Trump would not have been able to stop inflation either and I have no doubt he would have signed another stimulus.. I have zero doubt that the Afghanistan withdrawal would have been a whole lot worse under Trump, considering he was the one who rushed the withdrawal and had no plan in place. Shouldn’t have allowed so many through the border, though my understanding that a good bit of it was bottleneck due to Covid.
I get nothing Trump did will be good in your book, I can’t stand the guy and didn’t vote for him. But acting like Biden was some great President is just as bad as acting Trump was. So going with that line of thinking please explain why Biden’s approval ratings have been just as bad when he was such a great leader. I know his spending spree was needed in your mind (I do agree the CHIPs act was needed). The other stuff is debatable and certainly the infrastructure bill was ill timed give the supply chain issues and likely made inflation worse.
Do you think Trump being out of office for four years might have actually helped him prepare for a second term? He has had 4 years to reflect on what he did right and wrong in his first term and how he could correct for it. If he had gone straight into a second term, he would have just kept going the way he had.
Exactly. Yet, we continue to have the weeping and gnashing of teeth about Trump destroying the country. Apply, rinse, repeat....lose elections.
It’s within the realm of possibility but personally I don’t think he’s capable of much self-reflection. If anything it seems like others realized he was a rudderless ship and put the work into creating a plan of action (Project 2025). Whatever the case may be, we have the next 1462 days to watch it unfold.
With a normal politician, I would say yes. Trump is not a politician, much less a normal one. He doesn't really know what he did wrong in his first term, other than to not get dog-like obedience from republicans in Congress. He may have enough of a majority of MAGA republicans to do more of what he wants to do, instead of fighting and fuming over republican resistance. Note that Trump is right back on the tariff bandwagon, the immigration fight, and the desire to expand the U.S. to own Greenland (and other places). He still worships dictators and wants to be one. I haven't seen much in the way of new ideas from Trump, other than taking over the Panama Canal.
I think Biden’s ratings have been low due to three reasons. We’re a divided nation so you can reliably count on 35-40% negative rating a President from either party. The reason you’re probably asking is largely due to the same reason the rest of the incumbents around the world have had low ratings in the post Covid economy, inflation. Add on to that Biden has his age going against him too which we saw a portion of the negative views reflected in the post debate polls.
Do you really think we’ve got a lot of people claiming Trump destroyed the country in his first term? I’d be curious if you can point a few out. I think the concern is the disregard he showed for our democracy when he lost the 2020.
It (not destroying our country) wasn't for a lack of trying. He literally attempted to overthrow our democracy. He, or whoever he picks as his successor, will likely try again.
