Trump said stuff to get elected, just like politicians do. He goes even farther and says crazy stuff so the media keeps him in the news, and it worked again. I don’t believe half of what he says, maybe more. I won’t waste one minute of my time worrying about or plotting his progress, or throwing out “I told you so’s”. It doesn’t matter.

Makes sense, provide optics that will make the news and scare the living shit out anyone with brown skin who is fluent in Spanish, legal resident, citizen, or not.
I would also guess that the chances are that most of the immigrants apprehended in the first round of show raids probably have not committed serious crimes contrary to what Trump and is spokesmen have been saying about whom they will be initially targeting. They most likely have been reporting to ICE regularly making them very easy to locate.
