Curious what posters think of this pending ban? It has a bipartisan congressional backing.

Trump has indicated that he may not enforce the ban despite the Supreme Court decision and it's very likely that he may try to have the Act banning TikTok repealed. Interesting that Donnie was all in favor of the ban until he received a large campaign contribution from a major investor in ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok.
How Donald Trump Went From Backing a TikTok Ban to Backing Off
I would also add the Trump was probably influenced by the fact that he has more followers on TikTok than he does on TruthSocial his personal social media platform.

RedNote is a Chinese app in the App Store that people are downloading now as a joke or a protest and are using. You literally have to agree to be a commie bastard in the TOS when you sign up.

Seems like overkill to me. Just don’t download Tik Tok if you don’t want the Chinese to know what you are watching or what strip club you frequent (in case you are a senator).

The Manchurian Candidate indeed. Soft on China. Musk gets to slide. Cook gets to slide. TT gets to slide. In the end, the only people hurt by his tariffs will be small domestic manufacturers.

Aren't there certain morons out there who thought Biden was in China's pocket? Good Lord, how dumb can you be?

good point. It’s potentially a US IT security issue down the road, which I’m not sure I follow, vs an immediate political gain for Trump. Especially with millennials.

I thought Mr Beast was getting a syndicate together to buy it? Hopefully it doesn’t go to a big tech.

Funny that Mr Beast is the least ridiculous suitor of TikTok. What a world.

I thought it was Gen Z that was hooked on TT (the spike in suicide numbers back this up). Oldest millennials are in the mid-to-late 40s now.

    @citygator

I'd just point out that the OP basically accused Trump of being in the pocket of Z'berg and Bezos, as they stood to gain more from the TT ban than anyone else, meanwhile Trump has been openly opposed to the ban, and wants to extend time for suitable successor (Biden basically deferring on its enforcement bc it's only 3 days from inauguration).

But OP's hypothesis/allegation doesn't quite gel with reality.

That is largely true. TikTok isn't even just a purely social media platform to younger people. If you talk to the TikTok people, they view themselves as competing with Google as much as Meta. They want people to substitute google searches with searches on TikTok to figure out how to do stuff or for basic facts. I suspect that is why they were considered a "danger."

Lighten up Francis. I didn't accuse Trump of anything on this thread. I accused the two biggest benefactors of a tiktok shutdown of hovering around Trump. We will see how that plays out. Big government choosing winners and losers is just so right and left wing.

Yeah, it's basically a Trojan horse into our society, specifically the youngest.

You're a good man. I'd say the same for Twitter. Was never ever going to use it, never have used it and never will use it. You could see where that was going from Day 1 with the 140 character limit: Digital Graffiti.

Agree here. You get what you put in on tik tok. If you don't go looking for fringe, unless you're on a few hour bender going down some random rabbit hole, you're likely only getting the content you searched for or clicked on or liked.

I have to admit. I set up a tweeter account for our business. But eventually deleted it. Just never saw where it would make any sense for us and the business.
