Is creatine good for cognitive health? Will libbies get in on the creatine game and finally figure out where their party went wrong? “But there’s now a lot of research to say that creatine might have beneficial effects on age-related issues, like muscle loss or cognitive decline. It’s not conclusive – and it might be more beneficial for some people than others.” There’s a decent amount of evidence supporting the idea that it helps with things like mental clarity, focus and cognitive endurance over long periods of time.” The creatine conundrum: can it really help your muscles and your brain?
Interesting. I’ve been using whey protein powder to aid in recovery from cycling and weight training. I’m going to research this further. Thanks for posting.
Longevity stacks are all the rage. You can find lots of protocols online and there is burgeoning industry of docs moving into this field as wellness consulting. My hope is that scientific community continues to evaluate and do long term studies on these protocols.
I supplemented my diet with creatine, chromium, and whey protein when I used to lift. The creatine seemed to help me recover. I read a little about it. It’s naturally produced by our bodies, if what I read was correct. You can overdo anything. What is the limit on adding it to your diet?
Creatine is one of the most studied supplements on the market. It has research going back 40 years. The article does a decent job explaining it's benefits, simplified but gets the point across. As for brain health, the research is finding both long term and short term benefits. Immediate cognitive enhancement within hours of ingestion. Think you need to cram for a test, they are seeing increased knowledge retention. Long term, clarity, alertness and better memory. Very little side effects. Nausea, diarrhea and muscle cramping if taking too much. You will see a weight gain due to the body retaining more water mainly in your muscle. Not everyone gets that. Dosing is easy, no need to load as we all did in the past. Just 5g scoop a day. Just a fine white powder that mixes well and is tasteless. Looks like cocaine. LOL
So I just read your response to my wife and she tells me this… “You should know that I’ve been putting it (creatine) in your smoothies for the past few days.” So Holy shit and thanks for your reply.
I've been putting whey protein, and occasionally some collagen, in my morning coffee. Looks like creatine may be the next "creamer".
Be like gym pranker Anatol from Romania who pretends to be cleaning the gym. Sometimes says he is a trainer. Actually a world class power lifter (or almost world class) who doesn't look like he's got muscle. TikTok - Make Your Day
My daily breakfast:is a energy/protein smoothie (with a kick off caffeine built in ). I will rotate fruits. Sometimes a banana instead of avocado or black cherries for blueberries etc... But the norm is something like this: One half avocado. One cup blueberries. One scoop (chocolate) organic protein powder. (25g) Spinach or Kale 12oz Black coffee. (Yep. The bitter with the sweet is amazing.) Almond milk. Hemp seed Organic peanut butter or almond butter. Creatine. Added the Creatine about two years back. Helps in the gym and good for cognitive health
