Not a surprise to read this. Him and djt fit together so well. wonder if they sit around trying to one up each other about how badly they have treated others.

just another one of the maga talking heads that led people to their deaths by refuting the science, and then dumped a friend because he dared to call him out.

just like djt, don't tell him what he doesn't want to hear, truth be damned

Elon Musk bet me $1 million the U.S. would not see 35,000 cases of Covid—then turned on me when it happened, says Sam Harris

Podcaster and neuroscientist Sam Harris claims Elon Musk once bet him $1 million that the U.S. wouldn't see more than 35,000 cases of COVID-19. In an explosive Substack post titled "The Trouble With Elon Musk," Harris detailed his fallout with his former friend, publishing texts exchanged during the coronavirus pandemic's early days.

After the CDC reported 35,000 deaths from COVID-19 a few weeks later, Harris said he texted Musk: "Is (35,000 deaths + 600,000 cases) > 35,000 cases?"

The text went unanswered, according to Harris, who cites the message as the end of their years-long friendship. "Let this be a cautionary tale for any of Elon’s friends who might be tempted to tell the great man something he doesn’t want to hear," Harris said in the post.

Musk publicly criticized the early concerns surrounding COVID-19 in 2020, stating in an X post, "The coronavirus panic is dumb."

Not good to see Musk isn't paying up.

The response to Covid was dumb, however. A lot of people are dead or suffering because they got the vaccine. And if they didn't take the vaccine many lost their jobs.

I can imagine a Musk saying Covid deaths would be less than 35 000. I can't believe he would say there would be less than 35,000 "cases." That's ridiculous.

I am not sure how they really even know the actual tally of deaths from Covid. One of my closest friends is a Pulmonologist and he showed me the email from the administration of the hospital he works for telling physicians that no matter the actual cause of death if they test positive for covid then they are to code their death as a covid death.

And it could have gone the other way too. People who actually had covid and it was diagnosed as something else. Especially in the earliest days of the pandemic. Covid is a virus that exacerbates other chronic conditions. It would at the very least be a contributor.

Whether the metric was "cases" or "deaths" considering that the total far exceeded 35,000 Elon lost. Given that the data have shown that the death rate among the unvaxxed far exceeded the Covid death rate of individuals who received the vaccination it would be more accurate to say a lot of people are dead or are suffering because they failed to get the vaccination.

Excess deaths is the most direct metric.
Exponentially more people died because they didn't get vaccinated.
Numbers are clear that death rates post vaccine in pub areas were much higher.
Many lived because they weren't required to interact with unvaccinated people.

so petty, so insecure..is this the ketamine?

Elon Musk’s gaming scandal deepens as X owner attempts to silence streamer Asmongold for blowing the whistle
    • Elon Musk faces mounting criticism from the gaming community, including Twitch streamer Asmongold, after controversial claims about his gaming prowess, leaked private messages, and actions that questioned his authenticity and credibility.
Elon Musk's credibility as a self-proclaimed world-class gamer is under scrutiny after he clashed with popular Twitch streamer Asmongold, who challenged him to prove his skills in exchange for streaming exclusively on X for a year.

Instead of seizing the opportunity to lure Asmongold’s 3.6 million followers to his platform, Musk leaked private messages and stripped the streamer of his verification badge, which allows ad revenue sharing.

The move comes as Musk continues efforts to attract Twitch creators to X, including discrediting Amazon’s platform over adult content—shortly before permitting it on X.

“Asmon behaves like a maverick ‘independent’, but in reality has to ask his boss for permission before he can do anything. He is not his own man,” Musk posted in a series of tweets that included the leaked messages. Musk's posts were slapped with Community Notes for spreading disinformation.

1.18 M excesss deaths over a two year period per this published study in the Journal of American Medical Association

    https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2821581

    Key Points

Question How did state restrictions affect the number of excess COVID-19 pandemic deaths?

Findings This cross-sectional analysis including all 50 US states plus the District of Columbia found that if all states had imposed COVID-19 restrictions similar to those used in the 10 most (least) restrictive states, excess deaths would have been an estimated 10% to 21% lower (13%-17% higher) than the 1.18 million that actually occurred during the 2-year period analyzed. Behavior changes were associated with 49% to 79% of this overall difference.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that hospitals would be fully reimbursed for covid deaths but no for "flu or pneumonia" deaths for example. So what would a hospital administrator recommend?

Yep, and the political realist in me thinks that certain political districts would deny/reclass covid deaths due to the impact on tourism and their favorite politician(s).

Excess deaths over a year do not consider cause of death, just more than statistical average. Removes all those rabbit holes conspiracy freaks love.

I think this is the oddest (but not the most troubling) news about Musk the last few years.

He is CEO of three multi-billion dollar companies has a direct line to the President, and he got caught up in numerous lies about being the best gamer in two separate stupid fantasy games.

The Diablo V lie was even better than this most recent one. He was clearly paying an expert gamer to play under his username. Then he live streamed himself playing and couldn’t even figure out moves that an average player would know.

It’s a perfect match for Trump who loves claiming he is the “best and greatest ever” at all sorts of irrelevant non-sense.

    Just super awkward behavior…

more. he apparently admitted that he pays people to get him to the upper levels and then claims that he plays there when it is streaming.

Elon Musk lets slip he may have secretly had help in what critics say is the ‘biggest gaming fraud in history’

“Making rapid progress with my new Path of Exile character, Kekius Maximus!” he posted at the end of last month.

In the DM exchange, Musk went on to claim that other top accounts were run by multiple players as well, although he offered no proof. Typically, top-ranked players stream their runs in their entirety, often for hours on end, to prove their accomplishments.
    ..................
Quin, the streamer whose accusations earlier this month first launched the controversy, did not mince words in response to the DMs: “Elon Musk is clearly, blatantly cheating."Multiple big-name gamers steeped in the culture previously called him out for lying about his record.

Apart from Asmongold, who challenged Musk to prove his claims, popular streamer PenguinzO called the scandal a “mask-off moment” for Musk. So far, the entrepreneur has neither definitively confirmed nor denied the accusation first levied by New Zealand gamer Quin.

Why would they be reimbursed for any certain disease?
