Here's one that is related, but particularly egregious. She should be ashamed of herself for this.

After Florida voters amended the constitution to allow some convicted felons a path to restoration of their right to vote, the courts had to step in as the Florida legislature refused to pass any statutes to implement the clear desire of the voters. One requirement they ultimately imposed was to require outstanding fines and costs to be paid in addition to completing the incarcerative portion of their sentences.

Michael Bloomberg offered to contribute $16 million for that purpose. The state would get its fine and cost money and the felons would be able to vote. Obviously no one had any idea how those people would ultimately vote, much less any ability to control it.

AG Moody referred the matter to the FBI and FDLE and threatened Bloomberg with a RICO prosecution claiming he and the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition were engaged in racketeering by "buying votes." Not only did she come across as a total idiot, but she was clearly abusing the powers of her office. She lost a lot of respect of the people in Hillsborough who knew her and practiced before her as a judge.

    chevron-right

Edit: NOT creative, Bill, it's exactly what happened. Maybe the truth has caused some confusion?

    I recall that.

I was looking for a case where she sued to keep an amendment off the ballot and prevent voters from deciding.

    Just hilarious.

Part of being in the new Trump-world; things not liked can be pretended not to have happened. Actual knowledge or insight is to be disdained. If proven wrong, a debate can just be ignored or given a silly rating.

I'm wondering if anyone thought that this would get better?

It's actually rather interesting how this board has entered the fact-free zone just as the US government makes a whole-hearted commitment to doing the same....

There also was nothing in the amendment that said that fines and costs had to be paid before the restoration of voting rights.

I figured it would be Ashley Moody. No major issues with her but I'm not the biggest fan either. Agree with her for the most part on policy. Disagree with her opposition to the recreational marijuana initiative and did not like her push to try to get it off the ballot. Marijuana just needs to be legalized, regulated and taxed already.

I know she has done it for several ballot initiatives. That would be my major complaint against her. Let the voters decide.

She'll be pretty irrelevant as a Senator. She'll just go along with the Republican conference and do what she's told, so I'm okay with her being a Senator. It'll be interesting to see if she actually tries to run for the seat again, including against possibly DeSantis, or if there was an agreement that she won't run again and DeSantis runs for the Senate seat after his term as Governor.

Like others I could also see a swap. DeSantis runs for the Senator position and Moody runs for Governor. While the things I listed above I don't like about Moody, I would still go with her over Gaetz or Nunez.

I have no doubt she will be great. I’ve had the pleasure to meet her a couple times and was impressed.

You mean amendments that ban offshore drilling and vaping indoors in the same amendment. The way many FL amendments have been written has not been ethical and worded to fool the public.

legalized maryjane was on the ballot for the 2nd time and it lost both times- it garnered more votes in 20 than in 24. I am sure it will return for a 3rd try in 26/8

You mean an amendment completely unrelated to the two I'm talking about that was a year before Moody took office?

You know that one was written by the CRC, right? Pam Bondi was on the commission. Rick Scott appointed 33 of the 37 members.

I remember they held one of their meetings at UCF, because they in theory have to be "open" to the public. Of course this panel had complete contempt for the public and it was essentially a sham to achieve compliance. They certainly didnt want input from anyone there.
