Its not even like there is much evidence that Democrats are politically rewarded for coopting Republican policies.
That government would already be gone if they'd kept Obama's policy. You almost get the feeling some people like I this way. I.E. Wedge Issue > Common Sense.
That will be a legal war for sure to return land to former owners You could have 3 generations of people living on that land since the original owner fled 65 years ago.
The only problem with that is their government won't use the money for their people or infrastructure. The people of Cuba will never be ok with a Castro type as their leader. One way or another, regime change is the only solution.
I’m not talking about handing the Cuban government money but bringing up the economic fortunes of the every day Cuban by normalizing trade and travel. The current policies don’t really hurt the regime, just the citizenry. If anything the policies have likely extended the reign of the current government.
See: Civil War. That's all they'll bring. Strife and another bloody civil war. And the best part? All of it for nothing more than their precious pride.
Yep, and keeping it open to US products, money, etc. would have brought it down already. Again, seems some people would rather have a wedge issue than actually solve actual problems, or help to create a better Cuba as a partner of the US.
Im not advocating for the current policies. Im married into a Cuban family and know people still in Cuba. Nothing runs without the government. Normalizing trade and travel means nothing if the government swoops in and takes the profits. There is so much anomosity built up between the population and the government that nothing short of wholesale change will ever be enough. My in-laws came over on the freedom flights and refused to travel back to Cuba when travel was allowed. They know that any money given to Cubans with regards to travel went to the government.
"Maga moronin". You are FOS. It has nothing to do with Maga. What are you even talking about. You know its hilarious a supposed intelectual only has one move and that's to claim anyone that says anything you don't agree with is MAGA. Pathetic.
I wasn't calling you one, I'm saying that the position (Cuban sanctions) is MAGA moron. And it is, because it's utterly self defeating for the reasons I laid out earlier. American soft power would have been impossible for the regime to hold back and their days would have been numbered. Instead, we MAGA moroned.
Oh, and I'm the farthest thing from an intellectual. Just a dude who eschews partisan PR news outlets and the general RvD football mentality and, most important, can and does think for himself.
Ok I apologize - things typically go this way here. This one is a very strange issue with regards to the lines that are usually set around here lol. My position is of my own - by proxy I have a lot of information about how Cubans who live here think and Cubans who still live there think. When travel was normalized, your every day Cuban citizen didn't see a dime or change in quality of life. Both current and former Cuban residents do not trust the government and no form of that going forward is acceptable. Whatever it looks like, the regime has to go. We can pump economic relief all we want but if its being taken by the government, we aren't getting anywhere. BTW, Im not a war eagle either, Im not talking about our traditional failed attempts at regime change. The way we go about it is simply over my head.
Valid question, and I don’t know the answer. maybe because he thought it was the right thing to do but knew it might hurt the Democrats at the polls if he’d done it earlier. But I don’t know
disagree. he got less than 50% of the vote against an unvetted lousy candidate that was forced upon the voters. many votes against her as much as for him. in a system that was set up by pubs to marginalize disenfranchised voters
Hard to take anything the Righties complain about seriously when their leader is pals with Putin and Kim Jong..
