Art of the Deal. If Trump could do it why didn't Biden do it?

From the NY post - obviously not a liberal rag...

"The agreement in principle for an Israel-Hamas cease-fire proves that Donald Trump is a more effective president out of office than Joe Biden ever was while in it."

Then they immediately follow up with:

"The nascent deal is far from perfect, of course. It will follow the deeply unfair principle that sees whole cadres of Palestinian terrorists and terror supporters released for every one innocent Israeli hostage; it outlines no real plan for a non-Hamas government in Gaza."

This is pretty consistent with past deals made in the middle east during Trumps 1st admin. Celebrating short-term wins without considering long-term consequences. I'm actually surprised the post had the temerity to call out the deal as "far from perfect", especially while claiming Trump made it possible.

If Hamas accepts a ceasefire, it won’t be because of Biden

The daily telegraph actually wrote an interesting spin piece on this as the first step in a larger move against Iran, but I think that writer is probably going to end up being disappointed. Anyways - both those papers are super conservative leaning, so it gives you a pretty good picture of what some conservatives HOPE this means. But I laugh at the person in the UK writing this that thinks Trump wants to be involved in more foreign conflicts.

At the end of the day tho - some people get to go home to their families. So we can all celebrate that!

At the UFC Trump went to a while back Robert Barnes said he spotted a big-time financial guy from Qatar in Trump's entourage. Barnes said at the time that this made him optimistic that a peace deal was in the works.

Nice job by Biden and Blinken getting this to the finish line.

Israel And Hamas Reach Ceasefire Deal

    IMG_0307-min.jpeg

A ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas has officially been brokered following more than one year after intensive negotiations between the parties.

The Biden Administration has made this one of its top goals before transitioning to the Trump Administration, and now the deal has been executed and will come to fruition.

The ceasefire will be done in multiple phases, with the first phase including the release of approximately 33 hostages from Hamas custody. Right now, Hamas has 94 hostages in its custody. It is unclear how many remain alive. The remaining hostages, both alive and dead, will be released in the multiple phases of the deal.

Trump: “I am not responsible for anything bad that ever happened under my administration and my feckless tweets are responsible for everything good that happened under Biden. Strong economy under Biden? That me! Hostage releases? My tweets! Covid mishap? That was Fauci! Vaccines? Umm, I developed the vaccines that aren’t needed because it was all a hoax but i did it, but only if you think it was good”.

You guys are a bunch of clowns following the ramblings of a clown.

While I do think Trump was a factor it was probably much more of a case of Qatar and Israel trying to please Trump keeping in mind that Qatar has been the primary funder of Hamas. If a 14-month bombing campaign by Israel wasn't enough to force Hamas to an agreement there wasn't much more that Trump could do to intimidate the terrorist organization.

well in reading the terms it sure seems like the joey admin wants Israel to give way more than Hamas and since Hamas does not have to release all the hostages in joey's deal, I doubt this holds

BREAKING: Hamas Finally Agrees to a Hostage Deal

    from the article:

Republican lawmakers are also weighing in.

"Why is lame duck Joe Biden trying to cram down a bad deal on Israel on his way out the door? The only 'deal' should be unconditional surrender by Hamas—which is already nearly destroyed—and return of ALL hostages. Instead, we hear reports that Biden is demanding that Israel withdraw from key terrain in Gaza, release dozens of hardened terrorists for every one hostage, and get back only SOME hostages?" Senator Tom Cotton posted on X. "Here’s the 'deal' to offer Hamas and its patron, Iran: you have five days to release ALL the hostages or we 'unleash hell'."

Interesting. Same proposal that has been on the table since May.

good for Biden team and Trump transition team to have worked it out to have a smooth handoff.

Hamas agreed to essentially this very same deal months ago. Netanyahu was the man sabotaging the deal.

"Over fifteen months the Biden administration falsely claimed that it was Hamas which was blocking a deal over Gaza. It falsely claimed that it could not use any pressure against Netanyahoo to finally accept an agreement.

That was of course nonsense as it is the U.S. which was and is financing Netanyahoo's war.

It only took a few hours and some brashness from Donald Trump to push Netanyahoo towards concessions.

    As Haaretz writes (archived):

Last Friday evening, Steven Witkoff, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, called from Qatar to tell Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aides that he would be coming to Israel the following afternoon. The aides politely explained that was in the middle of the Sabbath but that the prime minister would gladly meet him Saturday night.
Witkoff's blunt reaction took them by surprise. He explained to them in salty English that Shabbat was of no interest to him. His message was loud and clear. Thus in an unusual departure from official practice, the prime minister showed up at his office for an official meeting with Witkoff, who then returned to Qatar to seal the deal."

If it stops the war, that is a good thing. Let's see if that lasts. Color me skeptical as killing each other appears to be something the peeps in the ME have a passion for.

I don't know the details of this one, but the one with Hezbollah was temporary and the Israelis have been accused of violating it over 50 times already since November. There's really no one in the US government that is going to get tough with Israel if they decide they want to blow up something or violate it for security reasons. Iran isnt going to risk provocation right now either.
