The scrub/chaparral in the area are extremely fast growing, drought and fire tolerant. They are desert plants that during wet seasons, grow like a weed. In dry seasons, they survive.

Last year's wet season was particularly wet. A burn two years ago wouldn't have changed anything. Last year's wet season caused much of the brush to grow at a very fast rate. And after the wet season is over comes the Santa Ana winds.

Any fire that exists in 80 mph+ winds is going to be hard to contain. It doesn't need too much fuel to spread to any and everything that can burn. The only way the area wasn't going going to have fuel to fan the flames would have been total deforestation. But that creates plenty of other problems.

At what point did I say they did everything correctly? Hint: I didn't.

Please point out your criticisms of the California govt regarding the wild fires. I'll wait...

Oh, you didn't? No way! You aren't criticizing CA govt because you are a staunch liberal. It's ok. At least own it.

The problem goes back decades under both parties. Those homes were not built over the past four years. Many of them date back to the early to mid 20th century.
Your simplistic and ignorant ideas for how to " fix" the issue simply don't hold water. Get your wildfire info from somewhere other than your orange god.

    California being run by morons,
And prescribed burns in residential areas being moronic are not mutually exclusive.

    I blame developers and lawyers

LOL. So you haven't criticized the CA govt in charge. Got it. Oh, and I love the "orange god" comment. Tells me you've lost the argument there. Never voted for trump but you keep making sure not to criticize your own party. What a joke. Thanks for confirming to everyone else you are nothing but a lefty apologist.

" my own party". Not a registered democrat, so stick it.
I clearly said this was decades in the making and both parties played a role in it. Do you have a reading disability?
I suppose you agree with this scumbag: Tuberville says victims of the fires in CA should get no federal aid. Today's gop for you.

LOL. Sure you aren't a democrat... Thanks for the laughs. How do both parties have a role in this? When was the last time the Right was in control in CA? That's like blaming both sides for something happening in Texas LOL. Do you do standup? Because this is some funny stuff you are throwing out there.

About 17 million acres of CA is owned by the Feds under BLS control. This land is mostly designated National Forest, where many fires occur.

Fire suppression in the state has been an issue for decades. The state should've let many burn, but didn't. This included the period with Governor Schwarzenegger (R) from 2003 - 2011.

But none of this matters for this recent fire. An extremely wet season last year meant there was going to be fuel for a fire in the Topanga Canyon this year. And with 80+mph winds coming off the canyon down into town, any fire in the area ran the risk of spreading big and fast.

Oh, horseshit. The Russians published this as satire. The disinformation cabal picked it up and ran with it as truth. Nice try Ivan.

Satire Or Disinformation: Ukrainian Generals Lost Homes In LA Fires

On Saturday, the Russian Telegram channel Military Observer first posted, "According to Ukrainian sources, 8 mansions owned by high-ranking Ukrainian military personnel were burned during large-scale wildfires in Los Angeles. The total value of these properties amounts to $90 million and was allegedly purchased with funds provided by the West as part of economic aid to Kyiv after the war began."

The initial post on Telegram did indeed include the hashtag "сатира" (Russian for satire), but subsequent reposts lacked any mention that it was made in jest. That was true as the story began to circulate on Facebook and X. Yet, even as "satire," it isn't clear where the humor lies in the original post, except possibly to Russian audiences who might find joy that any Ukrainian would see their home burns down in the devastating California fires.

What's the Russian translation for "The Onion?"

As for believing forest management could've helped the LA fire, the area received rain right around Thanksgiving last year. Not unusual, as that's when the weather pattern starts to shift. But this year, Mother Nature was cruel, and after the Thanksgiving storm, the weather reverted back to dry and winds back from the desert.

But with the late November storm came an opportunity for the chapparral scrub to grow in the hills. And again, add 80+mph winds, and any fire was going to be potentially catastrophic. Heck, they stop fireworks shows in winds 20mph because of fire danger. These winds were 4X that number.

Pre-positioning of assets during extreme fire risk would have helped immensely imo and will likely be among the recommendations going forward. Knowing exactly where to have them stationed is problematic given the scale of the winds and high risk vegetation. Maybe @antny1 can suggest how feasible having resources spread out is and what that would do to the ability of the FD to respond to all the calls coming in.

Keep spewing the Trump talking points and keep telling us you don't support him. Do you think CA has always been blue? This is at the local, state, and federal level and did not become an issue just recently. This has been a ticking time bomb and there are many other areas at the same kind of risk. After the fires are out, there will and should be inquiries into the matter and there will be plenty of blame to go around. That said, your orange god's magic water faucet from Canada would not have prevented any of this. btw, the homes of conservatives are being destroyed too. I suppose those folks don't deserve federal aid either, or should their voting records be checked first? That hypocrite Tuberville will be first in line asking for fed $ the next time his state gets nailed with a natural distaster. CA pays 83 Billion more into the fed than it gets back, so that bullshit talking point about CA wanting a handout rings hollow.
