It's the Mullen apologists that keep bringing him up and causing threads to derail into a "correction " of sorts. They compare his first 2 years of results and disregard the trainwreck last 1 and a half years to Napier's 3 in a screwed up new age of college football. If Billy craps the bed next year then I'm out for sure but I think he has until then. Not thrilled with the expectation he will remain OC but whatever st this point. He will sink or swim next year on that decision.

Not sure that's true. For me, it's more the staff preventing us from winning more games, in hindsight. We are at least trending up, which to me is because the staff was better last season.

To me, I don’t think the talent was ever as bad at UF under Mullen as we made it out to be once McElwain’s recruits started to graduate/leave.

Granted, there were holes, but holes I felt a competent DC would/could have covered up.

I truly believe he just mailed it in after he didn’t get an NFL gig following the 2020 season

Also, lacked an ELITE recruiter on the staff under him.

Because Napier has been so resigned to do things his way, I am of the opinion there is no real hot seat, no direction from his boss, and that the playoffs are not a requirement for him to be retained. I would believe regression could change that. If he wins 8, he's solid. I don't see his bosses caring that we are a top team. There's no evidence of that. A clean program, winning seasons, and a nice guy face for the program seems to be what's required.

As all can tell from this thread, I have defended Mullen as OC.
And I was definitely one of the last to turn on him as coach.

But even as a (former) Mullen fan, it's clear that Mullen left an absolute mess.
AND- Napier is not the kind of coach who can turn chicken crap into chicken salad.
Meyer is, Spurrier is, many others are. Maybe even Mullen is (look at his first year.) But Napier is not.
So in that sense- Mullen and Napier are both at fault for the mediocre first 26 games.

It's clear to me that Napier runs a certain kind of program, with his kind of kids.
This is why we don't have an OC and probably won't (per the post above me.)
Napier (probably) feels like an OC will do it his own way, and not Napier's, and Napier wants everyone to be on the same page.

Will it work? I would have said no October 1, but now I have hope thanks to the ending.

In hindsight we had more talent on defense thst we believed but offense??? Even on defense we had some major holes at a couple positions as you said. Offense was an absolute trainwreck other than runningback though.

yea man that WR room was BRUTAL when we let him go in 2021 and the kid(s) we had committed at the time…yikes. The decommit list is filled with duds and word to Napier for asking the ones who stayed on to send in film cause obviously he knew they more than likely were fluff

succient, bordering on harsh, in terms of "I am of the opinion there is no real hot seat, no direction from his boss, and that the playoffs are not a requirement for him to be retained".

This suggests that those in charge of UF football are satisfied staying in the "herd" and not distinguishing itself. I hope this is not true however I do think that UF has shown itself to be be conservative financially with NIL and Transfer Portal expenditures, but then again, thats just speculative on my part.

I have been unable to find any "factual" information about player "financial bids" or "aggrements". The rating services have what they call an "Avg." NIL allocation per team, but a number of sources suggest those numbers are barely over "worthless" in terms of accuracy of information.

Butch was a complete scumbag and he didnt run a clean program. He has no business leading young men in any capacity.

I just meant we coulda hired a mid coach for a lot cheaper than Napier if we just wanted to win a few more games than we lose. Heck we could've hired Muschamp back.

I'm not saying UF should too, but there are a whole lot of head coaches in college football that have no business leading young men.

You have to pay Ohio State $0.11 now. I'll find the PO Box so you can send it over.
