I think the biggest thing that has changed today is that people no longer use their "computers". If you still use a desktop computer, then how they work still hasn't changed that much. Maybe a different interface and commands are in a different place but essentially the same.
What has changed is people now use their phones for everything including what they used to use a computer for.
My wife does everything on her phone, edit photos, spread sheets, presentations - EVERYTHING. But when she gets stuck and asks me for help, I say "this would be much easier on the computer and I don't know how to fix it on a phone". She emails me the file and I fix it in 20 seconds.

I think it is on the consumer. People just wont pay more for an item to get good service so companies have stripped it out. Therefore if you need it, you have to pay.

For data analytics the computer is still the home base. Granted the work is done "in the cloud" but computer work is still the basic tool of business. Even with AI tools its shocking how much excel run business decisions. : )

Or how about the multiple levels of interactive voice response menus whereby companies make it painfully obvious their #1 objective today is to not actually have to speak to you. Gone are the days of quickly getting that rep from Pakistan who takes your call within minutes, despite you having no clue as to what they are saying to you. Now you have to get into a cage match with a poorly constructed IVR tree just to get that rep in Pakistan after a 20 minute hold with some killer hold music to boot. The IVR is doing great if it understands 50% of your responses on the first take. Then you get your rep in Pakistan who has a grand total of 5 sentences of script to read from and they will not deviate no matter what you tell them. And that of course is after you wrestle the language barrier itself for the first few attempts. Companies should be required to include a logo of a middle finger flipping you off next to any reference of their customer service # on their website or advertisements.

Competent people who speak well are just too expensive for customer service. They're all in sales.

If they don't want to talk to us, they need to build a better product that remains usable longer so we don't need to talk to them as much.

I think after WW2 there was a period of time where just being an average Joe who did your bit was enough to earn enough respect to get through life without having to count every passing day as a net loss. That's long gone now, and it's sad to think the only way to get it back is another slaughter on a global scale. People suck, that's all.

    It's a conspiracy man!

Mils through GenZ are about over us Boomers n X'ers polluting the net and mucking everything up, especially in the wake of the Covid scam....

They’re getting their revenge, and bumping our asses offline through techy obstacles designed to confuse us and render us needy on them!

I still miss AOL's chat rooms and message boards as they were back around 1995. I was a frequent visitor to La Pub and they had a great college football chat room.

There is likely an unsubscribe link in the email you keep getting. I would search for something like that...

Speaking only for myself I much prefer my desktop computer to my phone but then I'm another old guy. What I can do on the desktop with one or maybe two screens requires multiple screens on the phone given its much smaller size and maybe it's also a function of age I find it much easier to use a keyboard than a small touchscreen. When I do replace the desktop I may be purchase a laptop given that one has the same advantages over a smart phone.

They hate us baby boomers too. It’s a conspiracy to get back at us before we kick the bucket.

LOL I still remember AOL's college football chatroom in the mid 90s. It was dominated by SEC fans, we called ourselves The Gods of The SEC and would gang up on fans from other confrences.. I still remember some of the old screen names Myself and Chalmardin were the big Gator fans, Bey3 was a vol. Wildcane a hurricane JMDA a Penn State fan. I'll never forget me and another Gator tailgated with JMDA and a buddy of his from Penn State before the 98 Citrus Bowl.

It's obvious the Tilly didn't know about it. Lol... No offense, Tilly.:D;)

I had a brother that was a computer expert, so I knew the internet was around in the late '80's.

Have you tried to get all the security updates that your new computer needs when you buy a new one, yet?
