I was at the tag office today getting a temp tag and didn't have an appointment. They have TV screens displaying the numbers being served and running the few commercials companies paid for over and over again to my captive audience. After going through emails and texts, I started watching when lo and behold... an ad for the FSU specialty tags. The ad mentioned that some of the money would go to fund scholarships. It did not, however, mention their strongest selling point....the ability to park in handicap parking spots. It then said first time purchasers could get a $25 rebate, which is the cost for a year. I asked the woman assisting me if UF ever did that and she just started laughing (I was wearing a Gator shirt) and said "no." I asked her if they sold many FSU tags with the rebate and all..."no, not really." FSU License Plate Rebate | University Advancement Well before our specialty tag, UF fans used to put those little self stick fabric Alberts on their tags. I always had one, changed it when it got too weathered. I've often wondered if that's how the specialty tag craze got started in Florida.
So an FSU license designates enough of a mental handicap to qualify for parking? Who woulda thunk it?????
I stole that from our main tag office. I was in renewing Gator tags on my cars and boat trailer and the woman asked if I wanted to switch to FSU plates. I rather indignantly declined and asked why on God's good earth would I want to do that. She said there were certain advantages and when I asked what they could possibly be, she replied with the handicap parking thing. Best tax collector employee ever.
I used to have one of those stick fabric alberts. Then I moved up to maryland and have gator maryland tags.
Did she happen to have an approximation of how many indignities FSU has accumulated over the years? I do remember them electing a male as their homecoming queen in the 80’s but I’m sure there were many before that.
Actually, Billy Boy was elected homecoming queen/princess in 1980. I remember well because it was my first year at UF and I had been at FSU the year prior.
my last tag under my corporate name was 96681. I bought little stick on dots so my tag would say 96.6.8.1. About 18 months after I put the dots on, I was riding down the turnpike and got pulled over by the FHP. After the usual license, insurance, registration, he asked me if I knew why he pulled me over. I told him I had my cruise set at 78, so I assumed it was for speeding. He laughed and told me no, but that I had an illegal tag. It is illegal to put the little dots on the tag. I said okay and that I would remove them. He then showed me the 15 tattoo on his arm and said just thought you should know and have a nice day.
Off topic but here goes. Last time I was in Gville at one of the UF shops I saw a tee shirt that said,,,,, If you can’t get into college go to FSU.
The hot seller when I was in school looked like this: F - Florida’s S - Second Rate U - University Of course today it would be Florida’s Seventh Rate University.
