1. Moves the federal employees out of DC and closer to the areas of the country that they governor. Savings to the federal government since the cost of living is significantly lower. Doesn't really impact DC as those jobs are not what keep DC's economy running. The Congress, DoD and IC are the big employers not the other Federal Agencies. 2. I think that there is an ability to come up with a trade off to allow more senior employees to work remotely and then retire while new hires would need to work in person. 3, The Federal government can either sell or rent out the buildings these agencies were in. A lot of them are still pretty empty since a lot of folks are working remote. Then use the money to pay for the rent/build of new building in their new locations. 4. You have federal agencies working closer to the people they serve and have more diversity of the federal work force that run these agencies.
If you mapped out the top producing agricultural states California would be 1 and Texas 4. Moving to Iowa make getting there harder. Regardless the point of having offices in places like DC is so you can get competent workers with skills - not proximity to SOME portion of the stakeholders.
You do not think you can get competent works with the skills to do government work out in any major or good sized city?
sounds like they need to move it to California if proximity is the issue. I would think proximity to supervisors/accountability (lol) (congress/gao ?) and location where highly educated and accomplished people want to work would be driving criteria
Do you honestly think people want to live in DC where the weather is awful with the exception of about 4 weeks a year? DC is built on a swamp. It is hot and humid in the summer. Far enough north that you still have to suffer through a winter for four months but it does not get cold enough for good snow or have high enough hills for skiing. There is a reason why the joke in DC is if you want to make the government more efficient, you take away heat and air condition from government buildings.
there is a reason not many people live in Iowa or the farm belt in general. it just isn't that desirable of a place to live to most people. NC is heaven compared to Iowa
Annapolis is really nice if you are into boating, which unsurprisingly a lot of Naval Academy grads are. They are also on the edge of the Bay which helps in the summer but not so much in the winter. It is also an hour long commute into DC if you are lucky. If DC was not the US capital, the NCR area of VA would not have the population density it has now. It would probably look closer to something between Richmond and Charlottesville. The population density of VA, outside of Richmond, is concentrated around military bases, Quantico & Norfolk, and university towns. People put up with the DC weather because we have to. If the Capital were to move to Tennessee, Alabama, Northern CA, Arizona, etc I would be happy to relocated there.
I’d bet a very low % of govt workers live in DC. Maybe young kids fresh out of college living with roommates live in some hipster area around Georgetown or something. Otherwise it’s suburbs of VA for most, probably pretty dang far out given RE prices.
Companies move to the DC area to buy access to 90+% of politicians with “Votes For Sale” signs in their windows. People move to DC to work for these companies because lobbying is Avery high profit endeavor, and those lobbyists need a good bit of behind the scenes support. As already stated, it’s certainly not about the wonderful weather, great skiing, and great road accessibility due to light traffic.
Contact your elected representatives and ask them to propose moving the capital. Don't hold your breath lol.
I’ve been out of touch because my wife was hospitalized. Just saw Billy again thinks that his God has some sort of preference over others and he edited out things that he thinks offend him, making him feel like he’s actually a devout Christian. Your book of myths has no place in government and no power over me. You want to post inhuman nonsense while cosplaying a Christian and don’t expect to be called out because you’re a moderator? Tough. Ban me, you bloody hypocrite. You’re as pious and know your God about as well as you grasp science. Utterly pathetic. I’m sick of the double standard on this forum for right wing bootlickers. I’m out. I’m not going to pay for this.
Why not? There's plenty of infrastructure there and for some that lifestyle is better than an overcrowded place like D.C.
I hope your wife gets well Petrol. I’ll say a prayer for her and I mean that respectfully, As to Billy, it’s Franklin his son, not Billy. And if you asked him he would tell you he knows not just thinks. Last I thought Too Hot was free to post in? Have a nice day.
