Mullen is a lot like Charlie Weis. He's a good play caller, not so much at coaching or developing.

Considering Dans rep as a QB whisperer ................. Franks over Trask? (Trask only played due to Franks injury)
Trask only turned out to be, statistically, the most productive UF QB to ever step on a UF football field. (statistically)
    in the games he played.

Jones over AR? Emory was a fine young man put in a very difficult position. Not that I believe UF would have been that much better with AR at QB because the team had many issues.

Just pointing out that Dan may have been off the mark just a bit with his starting QB's. I recognize throwing darts in hind sight is easy but Dans QB choices were a bit puzzling.

I think Mullen was and is still is overrated as an offensive play caller. When he was at his most successful, remember the play call spinner? With Tebow and Percy, anybody could have looked good riding those two horses. I don’t think he lives up to his “genius” rating

Ego over team. Seemed like he decided to prove he could turn an otherwise mediocre QB into a winner at the expense of the team. Mullen has some warts, not the least of which is being a unmistakably selfish.

Agreed. 2006, the offense was not "great". UF had numerous close games.
2009, the offense struggled during the unbeaten regular season.

Anyway, Dan's long gone, Napier is the coach, yes his cumulative record at UF is 19 and 19.
Yes many, including myself, are not real happy about the last 3 (really the last 4) years.

24 - 26 overall including Dans last year.

I agree with David Waters in his recent podcast discussion with Will Miles when Will asked the question of David:

Whats "good enough" in 2025 to retain Napier?

Will (and numerous other podcasters) indicate playoffs or bust.

David suggests an 8 or 9 win season (no playoffs) justifies CBN staying, justification being, keeping DJL and the roster
together for a run in 26.

While acknowledging the fluidity of the situation, as in coaches may be dropped at any time for an assortment of reasons, I'm with David on this one. A "decent season" say 8 or 9 wins, and UF being competitive in most contests, (but no playoffs) would probably keep my support in play too. Lets see how things play out for Bill B at N Carolina, as a gauge of how long it takes to resurrect a program. If Bill turns it around in a year, perhaps this demonstrates I am too patient with CBN, and a change is in order.

You've all left me no choice but to post tweets on the twitter thread to break up the 14632nd coaching convo on this site since 2022.

Posting tweets on the twitter thread will continue until morale improves.

People disagree because the argument is not about who is a better OC. Mullen failed as a HC. Still waiting on Napier since he is still here but he trended up this year and overall has made the program better. If people want to harp on the short term success, fine y’all can have Mullen who fielded a potent offense when he finnnnnnally put Trask in. Outside of that, he more than contributed to the falling of the program as a whole.

I dunno, certainly Mullen is fair game for posters, he had his strengths and weaknesses.
I appreciate Dans contributions as an OC and later as head coach. As head coach, the first two years
were fun and refreshing, and if the current playoff format was in play CDM may have had a couple of
    playoff entries.

But he is long gone, and like every other UF head football coach that is no longer in charge, I prefer to tip
a cap and acknowledge ones contributions and leave the bitterness and vitriol alone. With one exception:
Doug Dickie. I try to keep my mouth shut about him, but what UF did with his hiring and Ray Graves being let go,
    never set well with me.

Napier is who he is. At this point I don’t blame Napier anymore. It is very obvious the UAA and Boosters are not willing to do what Bama, Georgia, Texas, A&M, and LSU are willing to do to win football games. We don’t have a choice and it isn’t changing unless they are forced to change. Go Gators.

So why exactly are you not willing to do what Bama,Ga, Tex, AM,and LSU are willing to do to win football games? I mean as a UF booster you clearly blame yourself....what is your excuse?

Anyone criticizing DM as an OC is off his rocker.
Anyone criticizing DM as a head coach has a ton of valid data points- the worst being he absolutely quit on his team.
I am NOT defending DM as a head coach. He deserved to be fired and in a just world would give back most of his buy-out.

    But about the quoted post...
06 our offense was good but not great- and a bad kicking game made it look worse than it was.
It was still good enough to score 41 on Ohio State, FYI.

And it's funny you mention 2009.
You do know that Mullen left after the 08 season to coach Mississippi State, right?
So doesn't the fact that we struggled without him show that he was in fact, a great OC???
And we still had Tebow and lots of other amazing offensive players.
