He was appointed because he (or someone he's connected with) is a large campaign doner. There is literally no other reasoning behind appointments like this. Come on people, you're better than this.

Ask how he expects the globe to sustain food and water (not to mention housing) supply for the level of population growth he advocates.

You're leaving out a key part of this equation. The kids were FREE LABOR after a certain age, not MAJOR EXPENSES up until, in many cases, their mid-20s. It really is that simple.

I think learning to drive matters, I just do not think it always has to be certified by a State-issued license, or have to be insured, etc. . . Come on Bill. Do better!!

Cant really tell. 2020 broke DeSantis and Republicans brains. Scott was bad but he was in office mostly before the MAGA insanity took over and more or less governed as a status quo country club Republican/hard core fiscal conservative. I don't know what Scott would have done in office with COVID/ Floyd protests. DeSantis strikes me as a true believer of all the culture war BS, while Scott is just a friend to plutocrats and wants to starve granny to get his kicks. Desantis truly seems to get thrills from being an asshole.

The choices - to pursue higher education and to have children - aren't mutually exclusive; many women do both. Ashley Moody has multiple degrees and has a family. Ramaswamy's wife is a prominent surgeon and mother. There are many examples.

I don't know if DS is a true believer, or just that politically ambitious. I know that Rick Scott hates poor people and that every policy he passed was geared to enrich him and his friends. And he was so transparent in this cynicism that it was nauseating. Like the "test welfare recipients" law, where everyone who would bid on this multi-million dollar contract was a friend (or even his wife I think?) from his days fleecing taxpayers at HCA. The line to the money was crystal clear on every piece of legislation he supported.

Only saving grace is that even most R's hate Scott. How'd that Senate leader vote go? Not so well, huh?

One reason many successful couples can afford to hire help is because of their income. And fields such as medicine, the law, and engineering, will never even be accessible to them without the required degrees. Of course, many parents choose to stay home for a period of time when their kids are very young, and that's great if that's what they want and they can do it with one income.

It makes no sense to me to categorically discourage young women from pursuing higher education. If anything, I think we need more discussion about why boys and young men seem to be slipping academically.

How about a discussion about Corporate America - and the business community in general - accommodating to help fix this problem? Oh yeah. . . . investors.

    Oh well, we're screwed!

Who gave a bunch of money so he could play King DB at some college. Just like the hack who went after New College. You don't get these positions - or things like Ambassador to France - without paying for it.

Let's just ask people if they are smart and learned! We can even use pinky swears.

Useless degrees add $1M+ to your lifetime earnings.

That's not correct. Traditionally, these spots went to campaign donors. People like Chris Rufo, Ilya Shapiro, and Scott Yenor aren't being appointed because they're rich donors. They're being appointed because they're right-wing crackpots who support and will implement DeSantis's right-wing crackpottery at Florida's public universities.

So...I'm not surprised to read that he's reportedly a member of a Christian nationalist group and thinks we're living under a matriarchy.

Okay, then right wing doners are insisting they be placed in these positions. Or a bit of both. I highly doubt this was an intellectually-based appointment. . . outside of the usual pandering to MAGA.

I tend to think of MAGA as including both the Barstool Republicans as well as the religious right. While DeSantis has had to personally pander to Trump in various ways, DeSantis is definitely part of the latter. No surprise to me that DeSantis would like what this guy has had to say.
