This is the opposite of a George Bush move. This is a PEACEFUL strategic play that the US has wanted forever.
A George Bush move meaning wanting to take over another area for oil while lining the pockets of military contract companies
It's not about oil. There are valuable minerals there. They want unfettered access to mine for the minerals.
Post by Anonymous: US Senator Tom Cotton claims to have given Trump the idea to buy Greenland. In 2019, Danish intelligence found that Russia sent a forged letter to Senator Tom Cotton, claiming to be from Greenland's foreign minister claiming there'd be an independence referendum.
https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/g...=DM737052_01122025&s=acs&dkt_nbr=010502yoij72 From the article: Skeptical Democrats, cynical pundits, and liberal media laughed off Trump's suggestions of making the country an official U.S. territory. "It's not a crazy idea," Stavridis told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" on WABC 770 AM-N.Y. "We could do an awful lot in terms of business, investment, box out the Russians, box out the Chinese, and work very closely with Greenland." The former NATO commander called the large Arctic island a "strategic goldmine for the United States."
While stating the importance of Greenland Stavridis never suggested that it become a territory of the US. He also made this statement, "The prime minister of Greenland said, 'We are not for sale, but we are open for business' – I think we ought to take him at his word," Stavridis said of Premier Múte Egede, according to The Hill. The prime minister of Greenland made this statement "Greenland is for the Greenlandic people," Egede said Friday. "We do not want to be Danish, we do not want to be American. We want to be Greenlandic." If Greenland elects to become fully independent from Denmark, a very possibility, a treaty of the US would not be a bad idea. The notion that it will become an American territory is absurd. "
With a population of around 60,000 people there is no way they could defend themselves against an invasion from the Russians for example. If the island became independent I can easily see a Mutual defense treaty between the US and Greenland in exchange for additional mining, military bases, etc.
And this would be different from the US commitment to them, as a territorial part of Denmark and thus part of NATO, how? Oh, silly me! "Additional mining." I missed that for a second. The USA gets "additional mining" in exchange for ..... honoring its commitment to NATO. As long as Trump, ya know, gets something. Because he's a rilly great deal-maker, who needs to get things. Or is it just a ploy for Trump to, in addition to threatening possible military action, imply less of a US commitment to NATO? Interesting. I wonder how Trump's besty Vlad feels about a thing like that?
You obviously missed part of my post where I talked about Greenland becoming independent. I would assume they would not automatically be a part of NATO at that point.
Oh, my fault. They should become independent. So that they can sign a defense agreement with the USA, rather than receive the protections of a member of NATO. Makes perfect sense now. Oh, wait - under that situation they'd give up rights to "additional mining." Makes even more sense, bearing that in mind.
Perhaps the actual reason the felon trotted Greenland and Panama out was as a diversion from the abysmal, embarrassing cabinet selections going in front of the Senate.
Definitely possible. I think I probably stumbled upon the possible reason; a backhanded way to impugn or weaken NATO. Of course, there may be no reason at all. Just the babblings of a guy who likes to tweet from the commode. May even be laughing to himself to see if the cult will jump on board. I've suspected that may be the motivation for some of his nonsense, for years.
It’s about China, stupid. President-elect Trump’s answer to an ‘I gotcha’ question is capturing all of the headlines – his refusal to rule out military force in the Panama Canal – but many in the media are missing its intended messaging. Trump and his incoming national security team are putting Chinese President Xi Jinping on notice. They are essentially telling him and the rest of the world – we see what Beijing is aiming to economically and militarily achieve in the Western hemisphere. Trump’s Greenland push is about growing China threat — and the media is missing the message Very good explanation about what Trump is doing with respect to Greenland and the Panama Canal. Of course, coming in day 1 with these items on the agenda is Trump's indictment on the failure of the Biden/Harris administration to protect our national security. The media does not want you to read between the lines and see that because their ultimate goal is to court voters in 2026 and 2028 to vote for the DNC.
Considering that 90% of the population of Greenland is Inuit rather than White European Greenland is effectively already a 3rd world country by the definition of Trumpers.
Stavridis is very clearly NOT talking about the US owning Greenland. Meanwhile, I wonder if those who claim they're agreeing with his support of Trump's plan agree with Stavridis on everything: Trump Is Right: Greenland Is Vital to US National Security
