Who knew that all you have to do to get Republicans to rebel against big business utilizing their money and power to obtain more money and power was to put them in California? And then they come here and post pretty far left sources to make pretty left-wing arguments!

Would you like a lecture about emissions and climate change here too? Given your newfound affinity for Mother Jones, I can use their lecture on the topic:

The fact that there is even a debate style thread on this topic is a sad commentary on the state of the country. Everything is hyper politicized & usually subjected to wild conspiracies too.

So let me get this straight. When there is a mass shooting it is ok to talk politics, gun control ect. but don't dare find fault with the government of the great state of California when their failures cause a disaster?

Northern Cali (SanFran on up) was wetter than usual this year. Central Cali (Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton) was near avg rainfall. SoCal was super dry.

Good even-handed thread on the Palisades fire from Breitbart's Joel Pollak:

The failures aren't all on the state. 17 million acres of CA land are under Federal control, including many of the forests that have burned. And the state doesn't control the weather. The west is in a prolonged drought, and this particular winter has been extremely dry for S. California and Arizona. How's that CA's fault?

As for dry hydrants, how many municipal systems could stay on 3 days straight without running out? The systems weren't designed to handle entire towns burning.

Or do you blame LAFD donating old and surplus equipment to Ukraine?

How about blaming the Santa Ana winds, which gusted up past 80 mph yesterday? Or is that the state's fault too?

maga world just like to bash CA no matter what, just like the other bogey men ( and women) they like to bash. Facts don't matter. They gotta rally to support their orange god no matter what.

They need a bad guy. An Other.

Because their plans are drivel that embarrass me that any American would hear and not just laugh at. Oh wait - Trump's gonna do all those things he failed at (and probably was just lying about) his first time. My bad.

I know. Blame the lesbian, minority fire chief, right @vegasfox! Forget her impeccable, 25 year service record. If only the LAFD had hired a straight white guy, the fire and wind would bow down to his masculinity, and all those homes would've been saved!

Why do you feel the need to make these disingenuous posts?

Many of those water projects are in progress and take a lot of regulatory approvals (you act like it was digging a ditch).

Further, that was around $8B in costs, which was to be partially funded by the state with matching local funds. If the local funds didn’t come then it would hold up the projects.
Finally, the port electrification cost was ~5% the cost of the water reservoir Prop 1, and most importantly came from the federal government for a completely different reason. It’s interesting you consider breathing clean air a “boondoggle.”

btw some of the bucket choppers can use ocean water for air drops. Problem is they can't fly in heavy winds. So much for not enough water argument. Last time I checked the pacific ocean is pretty damned big.

I didn’t realize the fires over there were bad. This post made me reach out to my friend who lives in Altadena. He just wrote back that they’re safe but lost their house…

How does one spend the appropriate money on federal land (57%) if the other 43% of the state land does nothing? To have success, wouldn't it need to be a coordinated effort? The CA government has decided clearing the forest of dead wood is not environmentally appropriate. It appears the Biden administration agreed. Common sense escaped these people.

As for money paid in and money paid out, I understand CA puts in a little more than they ask for. The problem is with the waste and the poor decisions that lead to what they ask for. This guy shares it best how policy is hurting the people. You of the left should enjoy it because he's a Harvard academic.
