Several California fire districts, along with fire districts in 9 other states sent surplus and used equipment to Ukraine in 2022. This included breathing apparatus, and older protective gear that were sitting around in storage closets, and likely never be used in CA. And since then, these fire departments has had two years to restock and get near gear.

Can you answer if this surplus equipment couldn't have helped the firefighters fight a fire during 80+ mph wind gusts?

 

Usually the old and surplus gear is not maintained. Often useless in emergency.

In 1994 state water officials, water infrastructure contractors, and agricultural landowners with water rights arranged a secretive meeting at a resort in Monterey Bay California.

These groups, a mix of private companies and public agencies, rewrote California’s water laws without any input from voters, taxpayers, or legislators. The new laws, called The Monterey Plus Agreement or The Monterey Amendments were devastating for working Californians and great for agriculture

The original law had “urban preference” a long-standing rule that in times of drought the state water board would give urban areas–where people live–access to state water supplies before agricultural interests. Monterey axed that. That means that in times of drought the water systems for normal Californians would have to buy water from the private companies, because they weren’t getting it from the state.

 

Hurricanes hit Florida and Texas all the time and no one on the left is stupid enough to blame Desantis and Abbott. Fire hits California and everyone on the right is stupid enough to blame the Governor of California.
