DFW area is 26 F on 1/8/25 @ 9:05 CST. But we have a 98% chance of snow/wintery mix tomorrow. The snow is not that ig of a deal, but the ice is what gets us here.

Damn that thing got hot too. Hot and hard. We used to run on it during PE classes and it was brutal sometimes

I recall a couple of times having to crawl under my trailer on Archer Rd and disconnect the copper water tubing and bring it inside to thaw

I saw Joe Montana and Earl Campbell battle it out for the national championship in that Cotton Bowl. It snowed that day.

Getting to this game may be like trying to get to the airport two days before Christmas. May have to leave three hours prior to get to the stadium. Depends on how far you are away from Jerry World.

Want some of my snow? Here in upstate NY I had to dig out my garbage cans. Had to crack the icicles just to get the damned thing open. Of course the snow was up to my shins. Real feel last night was below 0 so no fun here. Helpful tip to all of y’all not used to that type of cold, your pipes can freeze. Depends on the age and what type of pipes you have. Pex pipes should be fine but anything else well it can freeze. So do yourselves a favor and let water drip in your faucets. Keeps water moving and keeps things from freezing. Another helpful tip open up you cabinets under the sinks. Keep warm air on those pipes. Sometimes Home Depot and Lowe’s sell insulation for pipes to go around them. If you’re in a pinch use pool noodles and wrap that around pipes in the basement for those that have basements..good luck out there!

I remember snow flurries a few times in Gainesville when I was a student in the 90s.

Hickory Hill trailer park. Right next to Mt. Vernon apts on Archer Rd. Between 34th and UF. Super convenient. Easy bike ride into campus. No trace of it now.

1989 Christmas eve “ice storm”/freezing rain. Ice on some roads lasted 2-3 days in the shade

I’ll pass at this time on your offer, although I found it quite generous.

Also, for those that haven’t seen them, Home Depot sells styrofoam/plastic covers that strap to outdoor spigots. They’re only a few bucks and keep the ice cold air off of the metal.

Well, I sort of lived in Mt Vernon for one year and believe that complex is still there. At least it was last time I was in town. Used to jog in the area, but dont recall any trailers. I also lived in a trailer for a year, off 34th and that area was developed long ago. Recall heating the place with a stove.

On the other hand, we bought my son and friend a condo in what used to be the student ghetto. (crappy construction since sold) That's progress I guess.

All off topic, I know.

Latest gfs model showing a one foot band in the DFW area. The band location is always hard to predict.

Yeah I got the name of the apartments wrong — it was Country Village apartments, just a few hundred yards up Archer from Mt. Vernon.
“Hickory Hill Mobile Home Park” was immediately to the west of that apartment complex. Only 50 lots.
2720 SW Archer Rd — still remember the address.
I think there’s a UF Health Rehab Hospital on that property now.

The good news is that the older you get, the more you come to hate the cold. Living a little farther away from the north pole seems like a better idea with every passing day.:p

My first summer in G'ville I stayed in that very same trailer park. My parents brought their camp trailer down and set it up on a lot for the summer. Then I met someone to room with out by 16th and Main, think it was called Gatortown Apartments.
