The Russian trolls responsible for using fake personas and posting fake news of Zuckerberg's platform in 2016 will be pleased that they will have free reign to do so again not that the practice ever really ended but at least it was somewhat limited by the fact checkers. Meta and will be joining X/Twitter as another social media platform on which users will have unfettered freedom to post alternative facts.

It is funny that "free speech" has become a euphemism for "factually incorrect."

The damage done by the censoring under the guise of “fact checking” cannot be put into words.

Doesn't the question come down to - who is the gatekeeper of facts? X and now Zuckerburg seem to agree that playing gatekeeper is a potential, if not expected/directed, offense to the concept of free speech. Many people are in favor of curtailing the lies on the internet -just let the censors know when they can start that task. Please "choose wisely" (Indiana Jones reference) who makes those decisions.

I was wondering how facebook could get any worse than the AI generated slop of "posterior enhanced" athletic women and metal chicks I've never heard of on my feed when I dare to scroll, I guess its just going to be straight up Nazi and conspiracy shit now

They've found in Trump and the right an excuse to stop doing the things they never wanted to do all along. The metaverse bombed and the only thing that can keep them relevant is keeping people on facebook so they can continue to mine your data to feed you ads and get you shopping. They are just going to turn up to 11 the things that get people engaged, so they can stay scared/mad/horny and buy shit. Capitalism baby! Ironically, the country banned the one platform that was the most "free" in terms of content generation, Tik Tok. But that doesnt count since its Chinese-owned I guess.

Zuck wouldn't be doing this if he didn't have an extraordinary amount of user data which suggested to him and his board that such a move was prudent. The liberal media will attempt to chalk this up to Zuck merely currying favor with President Trump, but if that was the case, why didn't Zuck try currying favor during Trump's first term? And hats off to Zuck for having the humility to endorse the idea of community notes and credit Elon Musk as the architect.

With these sorts of happenings, it's very difficult to continue the narrative that Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter wasn't worth every penny. He has parlayed that purchase into a presidential cabinet position, which let's be honest here, means that his businesses will add likely trillions in market cap over the next 10 years simply due to favoritism. (it is what it is). Elon's acquisition of Twitter was perhaps his most shrewd to date and now you have a mega-billionaire oligarch who runs the largest social media platform in the nation giving Elon credit for innovative changes on his own platform.

Zuck doesn't need to curry favor with Trump. Zuck realized what our government was doing was very wrong and unconstitutional. He simply wants to be on the right side of history. I suspect, even if it causes a drop in his net worth. In the end, a mind like Mark Zuckerberg doesn't want to be remembered as part of the problem.

That's the kind of idiocy that happens when slavers form a country and a lot of people are like "they had a point"

Unlike in 2016, everyone with money that owns media platforms can see there is no price to pay for blatant corruption. They see a weak president who can be taken advantage of simply by kissing the ring or staying on his good side. All those pesky regulations and fact checking you never wanted or asked for? Gone with no pushback. Same with our courts, and now they've moved their dispute resolution in their terms and conditions to Texas, so if for some reason you dont like what Facebook is doing, you get to bring your case to some 32 year old FedSoc ghoul who will rubber stamp whatever the FB position is.

I think much more an oligarchy than a plutocracy. But I'd also accept kleptocracy as the actual correct answer.
