    Need a family dog…

    -prefer non allergenic.
    -Medium size
    -Non gay, libbie breeds
-Not too bony but not too chubby.
-Good with kids but not afraid to bite someone on the ankle occasionally.
-A breed not entirely afraid of alligators…we live on water.
-will need to live in Florida and not need to be walked.
    *please, no doodles!!!

The answer is always a golden lab.

I grew up with a mini schnauzer. Very smart dog.
Will have to look into some of the other recs.

    Ok…I’ll bite.
Will a golden lab growl at the occasional Mormon who stops by for a quick read?
Labs are a bit too nice. What am I missing?
Labs will show a stranger your good stash of alcohol.

    Interesting choice.
    This is more like it.
I don’t want my family and friends walking in acting like they own the place.

    Sounds like my Brittany.
Spider dog is pretty much everything you mentioned. I don't think it necessarily goes with the breed but mine loves to swim, you might have a problem keeping her out of the lake/river.

    Look at me!!!!

Our prior dog(whom I still miss every single day) was a rescue — a golden retriever/german shepherd mix that was the most perfect dog I could ever imagine. When she passed, we thought we would never get another. About 2 years later, my daughter asked for one, and I put down the rules— (a) the dog should be a rescue dog, (b) the dog cannot be a small, cuddly dog, PERIOD, (c) if we are unable to find the perfect rescue, then we must go to a responsible, reputable breeder, and under no circumstances are we EVER TO BUY A DOG AT A PET STORE!!!!

Meet my favorite child, in the icon (who is now 10 years old and looks exactly the same), whom we bought at a store.

But, she is hyper-allergenic, doesn’t shed at all, she’s not gay (that we know of), she is amazing with kids and adults of all ages, she can walk herself in our back yard, she’s not afraid of alligators (we have ‘em occasionally in our lake in the backyard), she really listens and obeys well, and most shocking of all she loves even me all the time.

Good luck with your search. In my own opinion, a dog makes a house a home.

Good luck with that. Guard dogs are not super family friendly regardless of the humans that swear they are. You'll have to choose.

Good luck, but do you really need a dog? It's a big commitment and a lot of $$. Our 4 year old lab is scheduled for CCL surgery tomorrow at $5K, followed by 1 month of crate containment and another month of limited weight bearing. Most likely tore it during chasing tennis balls and changing direction. It can happen to any breed or size though from what we saw in the waiting room during the vet consult but labs tend to have a higher rate of incidence at roughly 20% of CCL injuries.

My black lab sounds ferocious when someone knocks on the door. She will try and lick them to death if they get in the house. They need to be walked quite a bit.

Our yellow lab is basically a 90lb lap dog. She thinks she's small but in no way. She's the best dog i've ever had.

    Top of the ridge
Our labs would raise the dead if any walked up to the door or the back fence. Granted if you were brave enough to come in the house they’d smother you or whip you to death with their wagging tails
.All a dog has to do is bark loudly. Unless you are living a pretty shady lifestyle with shady people in your circle.. you usually don’t need a dog that will bite.
We had a boxer that would seem ferocious.. but was the most loving dog ever. Best alarm system out there.
Now.. all dogs require time, money and patience. If you don’t have all 3 don’t get a dog.
Right now I have two Rho Ridgebacks. They require ALOT of space to run and plenty of exercise. It’s why I waited until retirement and living mostly in the mountains to get them. But nothing will get through that front door unscathed

May want to hold off on the mini-schnauzer. We have one and he spends an inordinate amount of time sniffing (we think) our other male dog’s pee-pee. He could be gay. We are worried.

Hmm maybe something in the air out west?
Or maybe your dog is listening to the libbie shows in the background that you watch?

Its a nonjudgmental household. Why, just last week we let a MAGA relative in the house. Didn’t let him spend the night of course.
