Johnson apparently has been reelected although it still remains a question as how long he will last. At least this avoids the potential embarrassment of a Congress unable to certify the results of the presidential election because the House didn't have a Speaker.

Wow…all that “chaos” and to think I was enjoying a beautiful day in Ocala at the World Equestrian Center. My wife is happy and the House has its Speaker. Not too shabby.

Now, back to your regularly anticipated freakout about … well, anything Right. Happy New Year!

Both sides are a clown show. Only thing that would maybe fix this Sh@tshow is for term limits. But we all know that will never happen...

I'm confident that this will enable Johnson to promptly get right to work collaborating with Donald Trump to really help the American people.

LOL, sounds hilarious to even type that. :)

This probably will help tax cuts get passed in Trump's first year though. Tax cuts for corporations and top brackets. This, along with keeping out of jail, being the only reasons the felon wanted to be elected......a "mission accomplished" is probably in order.

Enforceable limits on campaign donations and the prohibition of gerrymandering would also be a step in the right direction but as with term limits we also know that would never happen.

You're correct, I must have misheard.

"Three Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (Kentucky), Ralph Norman (South Carolina) and Keith Self (Texas) — initially voted for someone other than Johnson. Norman and Self changed their vote to Johnson before the roll-call closed, delivering him the 218 needed to win."

It was such chaos that they re-elected Johnson as Speaker

Speculation is that Trump personally spoke with Norman and Self persuading them to change their votes. As I stated in a previous post most likely to avoid the potential embarrassment of not being able to certify the result of the presidential election. Still predicting that there will be a motion to vacate the chair within a couple of months and a repeat of the extended circus that led to the election of Mike Johnson in the first place. What Will Rogers said with respect to the Democratic Party over 90 years ago "I'm a member of no organized political party, I'm a Democrat" applies to the Republican Party of today.

Define "chaos." Several pubs initially did not vote...they were making a point, but then they ultimately did vote for Johnson after all the other votes were cast. 3 Pubs voted for other candidates. At the time, that was it...Johnson lost on the first ballot, he didn't have the votes, he could only afford 2 defectors. As soon as the 3rd defector voted, Johnson was done and I edited the thread title to include chaos. Someone, however, got the acting speaker to not gavel down the first round. That gave Johnson a chance to take two of those voting against him out of the main chamber to some area a little more "private" where a deal was struck. That was captured on video. What promises were made? No one knows and it doesn't matter, they likely won't be kept anyway. Those two Pubs then came in and changed their votes.

When I started the thread I did not use the word "chaos". I added it after it appeared the speaker election was going into extra rounds. Multiple Pubs had declined to even vote and there were 3 defectors. In retrospect, perhaps "Shit Show" would have been the superior phrase to the word "Chaos." I'd be quite happy to change it if you like.

EDIT: No reason to vote, I edited the title to reflect subsequent events.

Watch the video in post 16. There is video of Johnson and 2 of the 3 defectors leaving the main chambers to some back area. That's obviously when the deal was cut.
