Eggzactly. Which is why I never faulted Mullen for underperformance in recruiting. Now, he might not have been any good at finding overperforming 3 stars but not getting the 5 stars was not his fault IMO.
I think he was lazy as hell recruiting on top of all of that but without the bags he was powerless to get the very top recruits
IMO recruiting should be handled by someone other than the head coach. Ideally by a group not even on the coaching staff before NIL. JMO. But obviously the head coach should have some input as to who he'd "like" to have. Pretty sure Saban just told "people" who he wanted and they made it happen.
there’s a def between getting 5* WR’s and getting fluff at WR no matter the “bags” reason you wanna use. Recruiters recruit and i’ma always stand by that
Send Hartline to Toledo and see how good he recruits. We had coaches that got five stars at Alabama and came here and couldn't get shit. What do you think the difference is?
So according to you, Hartline only gets 5* WR because of bags? Ok, never mind the endless list of 1st rounders and AA’s and All Big 10 WR’s on his resume, it’s only because of bags. Oh ok….
He's saying it plays a major role. Winning and development also plays a role. He's not wrong though, send Hartline to Toledo and see how many 5 stars follow him there. We brought in highly thought of recruiters like Brewster and Raymond and they didn't do much of anything here. Sunseri was awful here, goes to Bama and all the sudden he can recruit. Just a coincidence the schools like Bama, FSU, and LSU that everyone knew was paying players happened to have good recruiters that mostly sucked ass anywhere else they went.
Well, Raymond didn't exactly knock em dead here. And there was some TE coach a while back that everyone raved about and he didn't bring anyone in. There are others but my detail memory ain't so hot. Actually, come to think of it no one has been bringing in much great talent for many years here and I'm pretty sure a lot of em were doing alright at any school with "bags".
Agreed. Recruiters recruit. some people think that it’s all about the bags. In this NIL era, the talent evaluation is also key. This is where I think Napier will shine.
Tim Brewster was outdated before he even got to UF. He was living off that Dalvin Cook flip from UF to FSU and getting Ermon Lane long before he got to UF since he was the primary recruiter in SoFl when he was at FSU. https://247sports.com/coach/tim-brewster-418/alltimerecruits/
lol Raymond recruited our whole secondary minus Marshall and Bridges this year. Moore Dijon Denson Castell Thorton Ja’Keem (i mean he waaaas a starter before well you know…) but C Ray missing on Cormani did sting. Felt weird that C Ray just never got it to “click” here though as far as DEVELOPING the talent he brought in and inherited. Again recruiters RECRUITER. Maybe it’s me, but UF had a top 5 class in 2023 Until we lost to Arkansas and then the wheels fell off sort to speak.
Were any of those guys close to being 5 stars except for Marshall? I really have no idea but I didn't think any of them were even top 100 guys. I guess one or two might have been though.
