From looking at our current roster and incoming players, here's my latest list. 1. Jack DE 2. DT 3. S 4. CB 5. Right OT 6. WR Currently, only 2 of the 13 incoming offensive freshmen will be in the 3 deep immediately at QB and OL. However 7 of the incoming 10 defensive freshmen will be in the 3 deep right away at DT, Jack, S and CB. With an injury, we'd have freshmen in the 2 deep at DT, Jack and Safety. IMO, we need to bring in players from the portal at all of those positions. OT and WR would be nice to haves but we have available options there. Jack is still the biggest need as we just have Gumbs and UMass transfer Asare there. Sapp, James or McCray could get snaps there but I consider them as bigger F DEs.
Good info... I think James has played some edge. Sapp and McCray are 100% DE. Recruit Jayden Woods is an edge. I don't know if ILBs Howard and Chiles have played edge at UF, but if needed they have the size to get some reps in certain situations. Overall, if Asare is penciled in as the #2 edge, I agree another jack is needed.
The talent at S in this class is so good, the coaches likely prefer them to be in the two deep and get an early burn to see how quickly they can get up to speed. There either are DT who are available or aren't. We hit the jackpot 2 years ago and struck out last year, or you overspend to get a mercenary like Nolan to jump ship, which we won't most likely. Gumbs is our only edge in the portal that looks like it will pay off. If we can get a game changing receiver we should do it.
We need a handful of game changing players to beat the teams on our schedule. The sec champs usually have a handful of 1-2 rd picks. If all our players were draft eligible today, how many get picked day one? Hopefully many on the roster become those players .
I read UF currently has 80 scholarship players and looking to add in around 6 or 7 more before spring. They mentioned multiple DBs and a NT type DT. They didn't mention the OL, so I'm guessing Manuel is currently penciled in at RT.
I understand underclassmen don't like to get passed over, but I have liked having Hudson in 23 and Crenshae Dickson in 24 at OT as one year cover. Both did their job.
