Pulled it out of my arse as an explanation of growing incompetence by college referees. Sarcastic humor!

 

One good thing about math is it’s consistent and dependable. The rules never change with time, are not subject to interpretation, and there really isn’t much if any memorization required. If you understand the concepts, putting them to work is straightforward. That was far easier for me than having to memorize details and dates, or trying to interpret the subject matter the way the instructor wants. Doesn’t matter who is teaching math, the processes are not subject to interpretation

 

They get a drone to have a view directly perpendicular above the field and it plots where it went out.

 

That WAS the way it was determined. Nowadays, they are raising their hand like an auctioneer and when someone pays the correct price, he downs it there.

Money and sports, it IS the new American Dream.

 

It's triangulation... with another ref that gets behind the punter.

Punters would get really good at landing out of bounds inside the five. Really bad idea.

 

The player that catches the ount has plenty of time to get there, so i assume if the ref is fairly in shape. He can get there too.

 

I mean, they could get rid of the human element and get way closer to 100% correct calls.

 

THIS is the only way to get this right.

But then the drone flies into the camera cables strung over the field, and all sorts of mayhem ensues.

 

So, if a punt goes out of bounds, the receiving team gets it at the original line of scrimmage?

 

Have you ever sailed boats and fished on commercial boats before loran and GPS and tried to triangulate?

Were you ever a surfer trying to triangulate between points on land to put you on, and keep you on, a reef?

If you're lucky on the water, you get within maybe fifty yards, and mostly then by watching wave action.

Triangulation in the context of this punt thing is a complete and absurd joke. The refs can't pin this down within 2-3 yards, if that.

 

I know that football eschews lots of technology in order to employ middle aged men with failing eyesight to officiate games, but a system of lasers or similar tech could easily eliminate the need for guesswork on where to spot the ball, if a runner went out of bounds, etc, etc.

 

The Egyptians built the pyramids to within.00001 inch tolerance with some string, a rock and sticks.
Referees are at least that good.

 

Pfft . . . . everyone has done this.
