I am assuming you brought up the question because China is closer to South Korea than the U.S. is, while the U.S. is closer to Panama than China is. Of course, the reason that the U.S. has more influence than China in South Korea is the fact that the U.S. defended South Korea from invading North Koreans (and Chinese).
