Funny you mention moving goalposts when it is you who have now had to admit the fund is in year 3 and not 5. You are so gracious about

How about this, we wait until year 5 of the fund and see how they have done and then we can continue this conversation. I’m not sure it is worth my time at this point since it is clear you have your mind made up.

Then I guess it’s just a pure coincidence that after a 4-year sabbatical from TH, he conveniently reappeared and started flooding the forum with threads the minute Trump was reelected.

Number of threads posted in TH from November 2024 to present: 43

Hmm I wonder what occurred in November 2024 that caused the sudden uptick in activity and threads.

This thread is as good as any Too Hot thread to post on the subject of schadenfreude, an attitude shared in the extreme on this forum. The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer mentioned schadenfreude as the most evil sin of human feeling (emotion; attitude), famously saying "To feel envy is human, to savor schadenfreude is diabolic." It appears many people post on this board more to verbally excoriate others, than to discuss or exchange useful ideas, information, or learn.

Everything and more than you might possibly ever want to know about schadenfreude ~ https://truealphauniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Schadenfreude

"A 2006 experiment about justice served suggests that men, but not women, enjoy seeing "bad people" suffer. The study was designed to measure empathy, by watching which brain centers are stimulated when subjects inside an fMRI observe someone experiencing physical pain. Researchers expected that the brain's empathy center of subjects would show more stimulation when those seen as "good" got an electric shock, than would occur if the shock was given to someone the subject had reason to consider "bad". This was indeed the case, but for male subjects, the brain's pleasure centers also lit up when someone got a shock that the male thought was "well-deserved".[35]

"Brain-scanning studies show that schadenfreude is correlated with envy in subjects. Strong feelings of envy activated physical pain nodes in the brain's dorsal anterior cingulate cortex; the brain's reward centers, such as the ventral striatum, were activated by news that other people envied had suffered misfortune. The magnitude of the brain's schadenfreude response could even be predicted from the strength of the previous envy response.[36][37]

"A 2009 study indicates that the hormone oxytocin may be involved in the feeling of schadenfreude.[38] In that study, it was reported that when participants in a game of chance were pitted against a player they considered arrogant, inhaling oxytocin through the nose enhanced their feelings of schadenfreude when their opponent lost, as well as their feelings of envy when their opponent won.

"A study conducted in 2009 provides evidence for people's capacity to feel schadenfreude in response to negative events in politics.[39] The study was designed to determine whether or not there was a possibility that events containing objective misfortunes might produce schadenfreude. It was reported in the study that the likelihood of experiencing feelings of schadenfreude depends upon whether an individual's own party or the opposing party is suffering harm. This study suggests that the domain of politics is prime territory for feelings of schadenfreude, especially for those who identify strongly with their political party."
    _______________

"The Book of Proverbs mentions an emotion similar to schadenfreude: 'Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.' (Proverbs 24:17–18, King James Version)."

The afore mentioned verses strongly indicate one's smug, ugly attitudes possibly alter, hinder, or even prevent God's own retribution or vengeance. "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord."
Romans 12:17-19 ~ Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
"A man reaps what he sows."

In addition researchers at Leiden University in the Netherlands found people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem.

    Self-Esteem, Self-Affirmation, and Schadenfreude

"In two studies we demonstrated that self-esteem has a negative relationship with schadenfreude toward a high achiever and that this relationship was mediated by the self-threat evoked by this high achiever. Moreover, we showed that this indirect relationship was contingent on an opportunity to affirm the self. When no self-affirmation opportunity was available, low self-esteem participants experienced a stronger self-threat when confronted with a high achiever, and this self-threat increased their schadenfreude, whereas this response was attenuated when they were given an opportunity to self-affirm. These findings indicate that the misfortunes of others can evoke schadenfreude because they provide people with an opportunity to protect or enhance their self views.

"Those with low self-esteem (assessed at the study's start) were both more likely to be threatened by the overachieving student, and to experience schadenfreude. However, the researchers found that regardless of self-esteem, those who felt more threatened by this student also felt more schadenfreude."

"The researchers thought that perhaps the reason for this was that schadenfreude was self-affirming for these "threatened" individuals."

The over abundance of schadenfreude laden posts on this forum indicate a good many "threatened" people are posting here.

This sounds like everyone who posts on too hot (including you Judy) depending upon what is happening in the world:

Schadenfreude is a German word that describes the feeling of pleasure or joy that comes from witnessing or learning about someone else's suffering, failure, or humiliation. The word is a combination of the German words schaden, which means "damage", and freude, which means "joy".
Some factors that can increase the likelihood of experiencing schadenfreude include:
    • Envy: People may experience schadenfreude when they envy a high-status or competitive target.
    • Self-esteem: People with lower self-esteem may experience more schadenfreude.
    • Deservingness: People may experience schadenfreude when they believe the misfortune was deserved.
Some studies suggest that social media use may increase schadenfreude, possibly due to the dehumanization that can occur when interacting online.
