But if we had 16 teams - and 8 first round games - then Alabama, Ole Miss, etc go in there an knock them off. Or not. Which would be fun too. The vast majority of hoops champs come from the top 32 teams, but that doesn't mean we don't watch the first round just in case.

Simple solution. If a southern team doesn’t want to travel up north for a playoff game, just take care of business so you don’t have to travel.

Also, it’s football. I have zero sympathy for teams complaining about the weather.

Regardless of being soft , homefield advantage is huge. SOS almost never lost in the swamp. Theres a reason the superbowl and national championship have never been played at a home stadium. I have no problem with gaining the right to have homefield advantage in the playoffs but this seeding is total bs. They have the wrong teams going on tge road and tgat cant really be done fairly as the schedules during tge year cant be compared fairly. Indiana probably isnt a top twenty team.

It's almost 2025. We have tech for the cold. As several former players have said, it's really not that big a deal.

ABSOLUTELY ZERO!!! Especially in football. This is the mentality helicopter parenting has given us.

Usce should travel to indians because indiana only had one loss, gotcha. Oh that's right, indiana got in over usce, brilliant. Go to 16 and make all play. The next four are better than the worst four that got in anyway. Hell with byes. 8 would have still had idiana in and eight teams left out better than them.

Its not if its 30 but if its tge chargers and the bengals in the conference championship in the 80's, its total bs. Sometimes the weather is too much and is the biggest factor in the out ome of the game.

Clearly the issue here is Conference Championship games. How do we make them matter? I get it. If you're going to have them, then you have to reward the winners some way (or not). Or you go back to the old days where you declare champions based on record/ranking and just seed the playoffs from there.

I've been saying this since a column I wrote for a student newspaper in the early 90s. The jewel here is going to be these home games, both for the points you bring up and for the financial windfall they represent for the program and community. Byes? Screw the byes, I want that home game.

And yet you remember that game. So do I. I also remember the Fog Bowl and multiple nasty trips to Buffalo for the Dolphins. . . and one beautiful sub-30 day in Philadelphia (Bucs). It's football dude. FOOTBALL!!!!

Did you actually read what I said about Indiana? Hint- I didn't have them in the playoffs. Under no scenario did I have any team traveling to Indiana.

Lets just make it like basketball and have 64 team field. But that wont work either because 10 other teams would bitch about not making it.

I agree with rewarding the conference champions automatic entry in the CFP, but they shouldn’t be in the top four and get a bye. Just like BB, conference champs are in but they’re seeded appropriately. BSU and ASU could be given home field advantage in the first round for winning but they don’t deserve a bye. They’re not better than ND, PSU, OSU or Texas

Winner of this playoff will play 16/17 games and finish Jan 20 this year. My how things have changed. I know everyone here likes watching football, but that seems like too many games finishing too late to me. Might as well start the week after the conference championship games.

On the positive side, at least the champion will have won it on the field, kind of a survival of the fittest test and not be relying on the goodwill of a bunch of sports writers and bitter coaches. That's progress, I guess.

ASU beat 4 ranked teams. Boise on the other hand didn't deserve a bye.

Ending on Jan 20 is ridiculous, imho. As is waiting to play games at the dinosaur bowl games. The next round of games is on a Tuesday & Wednesday, smh. They should be playing on Friday night and Saturday’s starting the weekend after the conference championship games.

How/why did Atlanta get a quarter final game and the championship game?

At some point in all these "changes" you have to sit back at a bit and look at the conference in a more logical way. Where's the logic in destroying our divisions. The SEC was the first conference in America to have two college football divisions... leading.

And what's the point in having the SECCG, without divisions... thank you, Sankey. And we gained respect as a conference for doing this the right way. The whole nation was envious of the SEC in college football and in all sports.

Then we fell for the "bigger-is-better noise. Now, I will say that I like the fact that we took in Texas and Oklahoma, but I might have hesitated if Sankey had told us the truth up front about abolishing the divisions and our consistent game schedule with long-lasting rivals in order to accommodate these two new teams.

Then he was not open and honest up front to us about how they were going to make the new schedule... still keeping the possibility of NO divisions quiet. The mentioned pods, and no one liked that idea. There is NO way that he did NOT know that they were possibly planning to dissolve the divisions altogether ahead of time, and he looks like a dishonest person for being secretive about that possibility... even if he didn't know outright that they were going to abolish the divisions. We should have been told about that possibility ahead of time. The pods still had some elements of divisions built in them, but we got one big mess of a conference instead.

One more thing, since when does the SEC FOLLOW other conferences' lead? Lol, yeah, sure. We were the best and most powerful conference in all of college football. You think we should do what some other conferences were doing because why? That's NOT a good enough explanation, NOT do what's best for the SEC. Or we would be left behind?

I'm just mad that Sankey never just added one of Texas or Oklahoma to the East and kept the divisions, and then the SECCG would still make sense. That argument about not paying all the teams in a timely fashion was because they scheduled teams like UGA and Bama to NEVER PLAY IN THE SEASON. But they never had any intention of doing that will the new teams, so that was a useless point to begin with, since we now have 16 teams.

We DO NOT need to go to 18 or 20 teams... but we do need to get rid of the clown president of the NCAA.

And lastly, don't tell me Sankey is not part of the reason why the Gators have been getting screwed in the scheduling. He is very much the reason. Screw Sankey... he's no friend of the Gators.
