Individual assistance can only be more temporary. I saw a lot of people complaining about “only $750!!!??? My government failed me”, so I guess these people wanted the feds to immediately give them $5000 or $10,000 in cash. I’m sure a lot of people do end up with federal assistance in the thousands, and that might be the reality of what it costs to get people through a few months. But ultimately if they didn’t have insurance the govt can’t be making them whole or else it’s obviously unfair to those who pay to have insurance. It’s just about helping them figure things out for a few months or through winter. Beyond that low interest or subsidized loans would also be a good idea for rebuilding. How did FEMA ever get into the “trailer” business? That always seemed weird to me in the first place. Does the govt maintain a huge inventory of mobile homes somewhere?

In FL after hurricanes the most visible thing about FEMA is the debris trucks which haul away huge piles of trees and household waste piles (furniture and belongings which were flooded). I’m sure they are contracted, but everyone refers to them as “FEMA trucks”. Seems like we might as well have a permanent fleet of them down here now.

 

No one is saying 71 deaths and destroyed homes wasn't a traumatic event. The accusation from you is that there was no help there. That is BS. You are talking about inconveniences, not life threating issues. A line at publix? Driving further to get gas? OK. I am sorry for your inconvenience as well as my brother's who was out of power for 5 days and had no potable water for 2 weeks while thousands of people worked to restore it.

FEMA's job isnt to remove the trees from the road. They provide funding and coordination. A local dude working for a local company plus people fly/drive in from other companies to aid local and state companies to remove trees and they are paid by the state which is reimbursed by the federal government - FEMA. Most of the heavy lifting is done by the state. Do you think there are thousands of FEMA vest wearing tree guys sitting in an office waiting for a tree to fall down and get on a plane to fly there? Come on. That's not how it works. FEMA mostly hands out checks and coordinates. They do hire local people temporarily for some jobs. If you are in Gainesville here is a job opening. Most of FEMAs job openings are financial and insurance specialists but this is local hire to help volunteers for 120 days.

Eventually the private sector was able to bring in supplies once the roads were cleared. Wouldn’t you want that for your brother and all of us? Again, I lived through that, you didn’t. I can only speak to what I experienced where we were stuck. Hendersonville and surrounding area. Roads impassable, water and food and fuel not there for weeks. Eventually Publix semis arrived and a fuel tanker here and there. We could not get to Flat Rock which is on the way to Greenville, for weeks. Makes one appreciate a fuel tanker and a food semi.

So much compassion for those devastate by that storm. Oh I know.. it wasn’t COMPLETE destruction so we should all quit being dramatic. And of course Biden oversaw a heroic rescue/relief effort full of American spirit. Those of you who lived through all of it with a different perspective or just anti American.
And compared to Bush’s response to Katrina.. This was soooo much better, so much faster. The best really. And we know this because a few of our libbie posters visited some of that area a few days after the storm. Really got to know the locals that lost everything. Went to the hills and hollows to see what damage was down. Watched FEMA go above and beyond to help the poor, homeless, desperate and has informed all of us how great fema did
.I mean sure.. there are carried accounts of some fema workers warning not to go up to houses with Trump signs.. but they did a great job. Full of American spirit.

Biden was/ is great ( well not really Biden since we know he was just puppet )and FEMA did such an amazing job. Any complaints are anti American and just whiny babies. Just read some of the reports.. not from those that lived through it.. but from those that visited.

The reality, of course, is probably that FEMA did OK wrt North Carolina, Biden probably had pretty little impact on FEMA, and there's really no major "Biden angle" on all of this. So yeah, it probably is just an opportunity for the right to whine.

I still can’t drive up 40 to get to my brothers house. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t adequate search and rescue, or that there weren’t hot meals given out in 6 locations I listed in Hendersonville for free, or that there wasn’t water and packaged food locations open 72 hours after the storm in 4 locations I listed, or that there were not 1,200 linemen flown in to repair electricity, or that there was not over 100 tons of trees removed by the state in western North Carolina.

Instead of thanking those folks you continue to shit on them because you want to lie about being in some fantasy world where you were personally targeted to not get relief cuz you’re a right winger. You are a thankless human. It’s a shame you can’t see the charity from people you don’t know that got Hendersonville back on its feet.
