So good to have Dr. Makary about to lead the FDA

Sounds good to me. But I go back to my original point: after years of fighting government regulations, are conservative really going to embrace all the regulations needed to change what the food industry sells?

let me edit that a bit … years of fighting SOME regulations while strongly supporting others.

Perhaps. I don't listen much to people who tolerate egregious, repeated public lying, or who vote for an adjudicated sexual assaulter and an obvious rapist. And criminal.

I most certainly don't listen to the person who commits such crimes.

There are certain lines of integrity and decency that can't be crossed, at least in positions of public leadership, anyways. Sorry, but people don't get to cross them, or enable such, then later just choose to cross back and dwell in the realm of honesty and integrity at their discretion. It's a one or the other thing.

Oh I doubt it. Just like I think the dems will let the food lobby control them.

But at least we have a voice in an important position. Hopefully we will see change. Even if small. And then hopefully we can build on that.

Certainly Makary fits the mold as one who will speak for what is right. Regardless of who his employer is.

Well, I hope he does speak for what is right, regardless of his employer. And I'd love to see an effort to truly make Americans healthier.
But I don't see either party as more beholden to the food lobby than the other. That seemed like a weak shot.

Come on. I dislike everything about Trump and am incredibly disappointed he was elected. But every thread doesn't need the same anti-Trump spiel. The subject is the proposed head of the FDA and what he's said he stands for.

I was just pointing out both parties are the problem. It was not a shot but you had only mentioned “conservatives”…

6 pages in and this is the biggest criticism levied against the man (nothing wrong with your take, Emmitto, just highlighting that few are discussing the actual individual's potential lack of qualifications and/or other concerns with him). I'd say this looks like a successful pick. I'm down with the folks who are skeptical that there will be significant changes, but would love to be wrong.

That's because conservatives are in charge. And we're talking about changes that they're going to make.

Both parties have been in charge over the decades and both parties have failed for decades. That is where my point is.

Even I am skeptical there will be significant changes. But this is the way we get that potential to start if you ask me.

So how do you propose that people work together with others that fit such a description? It seems like it's either ignore or try to be respectful, is there a more fruitful option? Or do you believe that we are better off just not trying to work together?

My proposition would be that we start by insisting that intelligent, educated adults absolutely refuse to endorse or enable outright lying from our leaders. By denying our vote or our ear to such people, or to people who enable them.

And I mean harmful, meaningful lies. Lies about FEMA. Or entire ethnicities. Or people. Or elections. Or a global pandemic. Lies about criminal conspiracies, such as to attempt to overturn an election, or not transfer power. These types of lies greatly matter.

I don't mean silly, inconsequential lies like "I was a the best football player in my law school class. And my uncle got 2 purple hearts."

You're asking ME what I propose, as if it is me choosing to disengage from constructive discourse. But that is not correct; an entire half of our political body and electorate has NO INTEREST in honest discourse. They're dishonestly enabling crime and lying. I propose that people return to having a shred of integrity.

    Bless your heart too!!

You voted for a guy who repeatedly and publicly lied to your face, on a gamut of issues from policy to FEMA to racist lies about entire ethnic groups. And yet you still voted for him!!

What kind of grown adult doesn't mind being repeatedly lied to, and even casts their lot with, and vote for, a liar? #SAD!!!!!!!!!

    Bless your heart!!

You could at least try to be fair. The OP makes a blanket claim citing no specific attributes. It's all generic rhetoric as an attempt to elicit a reaction.
